Would fully agree. A governments first responsibility is the protection of its people, we should be pooling our resources with our European friends and if that takes a few extra billion then that’s what it takes.

Populism isn’t the reserve of the fringe parties. Johnson was nothing if not a populist and herein lay the problem with politics today IMHO, as a politician try standing for something other than reelection.

The most recent budget process has plumbed new depths of chaos. Perhaps if someone had a few bevvies it might have been less so ;)

Polanski is an ideologist and ever so slightly insane. He will appeal to plenty but there is a ceiling to that appeal that should keep him away from high office - although he could be the king maker in a coalition which would be fun to watch because I don’t see him as someone who would...

Which begs the question why did someone even suggest this in the first place followed by how did it get this far before someone with a brain said…hang on a minute. I agree with @Ifwecouldjust....... that post a probation period feels a more sensible approach- and perhaps cap the time...

Cheers for link MB. It’s estimated to be £7.3bn per 300,000 adults migrating. So £23k made up of income tax and VAT etc I can see that being accurate as migrants will likely have decent paying jobs don’t have any “debt” where the state has paid for their education etc. The worrying aspect of...

£7bn per 100k. So each is paying £70k in tax? Per year? That sounds very unlikely.
