With so much money spent in the Premier League, why are many games boring?

have to also see the shift in Spain, Barca without Messi can't play the old style, Real win trebles by setting up not to lose and Atleti are anti-football in the extreme.

Serie A might have some pretty teams now but it's been a decade since Calciopoli and they had to strip back, and they're only just beginning to start again now, and even then the hype is a bit extreme. And there are a fair few very weak teams at the bottom of Serie A now which distorts things.

Watching the Brighton game with Southampton. Apart from the goal it's matches keeping the eyelids up

Total bore a fuck. Time to tune into the god channel for a laugh.

Fear, teams are scared of getting relegated, or missing out on Champions League spots etc...Owners put pressure on managers because of the finances involved. Teams 8th and below just want to avoid relegation, teams 4th-6th worry about Champions League.

It's not just the Premier League though, it's becoming widespread in all the big leagues in Europe. Just more noticeable in the Premier League because the money is so much greater.

As someone mentioned earlier, any team that plays decent football has their manager and players picked off by other sides.

There needs to be bigger incentives for the teams 8th and below. I wish there was a European competition for every team that doesn't end up in Europe across all the Premier Leagues in Europe. Might make the teams 8th-17th focus on something other than finances and staying in the league.

Most managers know that a run of bad results and or being anywhere near the bottom three at Christmas will get them fired. Moreover, most teams are very evenly matched and it's usually small details that make the difference between winning and losing. Games are ground out affairs between sides fearing defeat.

Even amongst the top 6 every manager and club is terrified of finishing outside the top 4 so you can't risk losing 6 pointers.

Back in the days of a 22 club division with only a couple of relegation and European places more games were meaningless but teams had much less reason to fear defeat. Added to the fact that players could double their weekly wage with an appearance, win and goal bonus there were a lot more reasons to play to win.

So much money has been spent because there's so much available. The standard of players hasn't increased. You only have to look at the transfers between English clubs to see this. Danny Drinkwater cost Chelsea £35m. He's a decent player, but it's hard to argue that he's any better than Gareth Barry was when we bought him for £12m. Oxlade Chamberlain went for £35m. That's £10m more than we paid for Yaya Toure and David Silva. When teams know you have money, they'll charge you more. Look at Juventus when they bought Higuain. There's no way he would have cost £75m if they hadn't just sold Pogba for £90m. Liverpool definitely would have sold Coutinho for £130m, if Barcelona hadn't just been given £200m.

You'd think it might allow teams to bring in better quality from overseas, but in reality, the top players still want to play at the top level, and the best strikers would rather play for Napoli or Dortmund in the Champions League than West Ham in the Premier League, even if the latter can offer more money.
