Pablo Maffeo

£8.8m Maffeo - 25 per cent sell on and buy back
£10m Sancho - likewise
£3.5m - Ntcham
£10m Enes Unal
£25m Kelechi
£3.25m - Emyr Hughes
£8m Ronny Lopes.
£1.8m Boyata

By my reckoning - that's around £70m and a third of the cost it took to build the CFA.

Seems to be paying for itself. Nice work.

Don’t think we have a buyback with Sancho. Isn’t it just first option. I.e we can match whatever another club will pay or?

Overall this is a great deal. Good money for a player with one year left.

Buy back clause is genius and I’ve been the biggest supporter of them for a while. So many benefits with these clauses.

And yet Real Madrid currently have 8 players from their academy in their squad. But the best we can possibly hope for is 2 or 3.
one of them is Dani Carvajal, a talented but unproven right back who they didn't have a place for so sold to the Bundesliga, only to buy him back when he emerged and did well. Another would be Kiko Casilla who was released by their academy then they bought him back off Espanyol years later. The only other two who actually play semi regularly are Lucas Vazquez and Nacho, both of whom only were able to come through the academy because the B team structure in Spain, neither making it into the main team until they were 23/24.

The part where people somehow think an untested 21 year old is a better option than Danilo or Walker is Bizarre! Perspective here,He's nowhere near good enough yet and he's no where near the level of Danilo or Walker yet by some distance. So this thinking he'd just slot into Danilos spot in the squad doesn't make any sense.
But he’s played for GIRONA.

Was great for the academy. Was MOTM when he was given a chance against the rags in the league cup. Then goes out on loan and does very well, but gets sold. What more could he do?

This is a good move for him.

Obviously at the start of last season he wasn't assessed as being good enough. This is why we were after Alves, and then when that fell through we got Danilo.

With Walker and Danilo in the squad he will not get games. Simple as that. Right now that is exactly what he needs. He has the security of a permanent deal, which means Stuttgart will be incentivised to play him (moreso than some of our other loanees), plus with the buy back clause he has the personal incentive to do his best to make us trigger it. It's win win.

The difficulty we may find is that if we do unearth a proper gem, he'll leave whilst very young because the slightly more senior youngsters aren't getting chances at City, even if they impress in the academy and on loan.

Very similar to Sancho really. He didn't necessarily leave because he wasn't being played but because he's seen talented players like him (Barker, Roberts, Lopes) overlooked for years previous and didn't want to go the same way.

There's always an excuse not to play kids but it's going to bite us on the arse one day.
Out of the names mentioned, only Rony has turned into anything and that was after Monaco loaned him for a further 2 years at Lille before he got his chance at Monaco. Oh and that was after Bernardo made way and big money buys didn’t pan out too well(Jovetic included) as Rony was close to being sold last summer.

Sancho needed a host of injuries to finally get time at BVB and their transfer rumors are Gelson Martins from Sporting Club and a couple of others that would cost a fortune in his position. You can’t escape competition.

In regards to Maffeo a few amplify the 2 stand out performances against Madrid and Barca vs the other 30+ games where it’s clear he has so much more to learn on both sides of the ball. Now he’s at Stuttgart where he will be completely out of his comfort zone, tested at a high level and has a possibility of playing in Europa league if Bayern win the German Cup. It’s sink or swim time and if develops into what people already have him down as, we’ll see him in the future. By all accounts this transfer went over smooth and their should be no hard feelings.
