Atmosphere Feedback from the Club

Close City square earlier before games to get people in to the stadium, employ more security people to speed up checks and get people in to the ground. Shut the bars inside the ground slightly earlier to get people in to their seats. Small steps but at least would get people inside the stadium well in advance of kick off which would be a start.

And we have our winner!

How many of us think the club will do anything - ? - after getting our feedback - we have had threads like this before -
Atmosphere survey ? - they are havin' a larf..
What pissed me off was the removal of 126/7 blocks to create the TUNNEL CLUB.........expensive corporate , yes - but how many empty seats when City play the "smaller teams".......Also , during the 'Pool second leg there was "handbags" when 'Pool supporters in there celebrated.

open the ground 15 minutes before kick-off, and close it 14 minutes before kick-off, then you'll have an atmosphere with everyone kicking off and whinging outside.

Yawn, yawn, yawn. Another load of crap from the club about atmosphere and once again we get suggestions that can't be implemented. I don't pretend to have the answer but regurgitating things that can't currently happen is just a waste of time.
We can't have safe standing at the moment. We can support it but we can't implement it.
Some clown suggested putting away fans up in the gods as Newcastle do. WTF? The PL has stated some away fans must be pitch side. Newcastle got away with it because they threw a tantrum.
And once again we get stuff about moving away fans from the south east corner even though the police have stated that's where they want them to be. And for the benefit of those who have just rocked up; the police have been saying the same thing since we moved 15 years ago.
The club only want "atmosphere" suggestions that align with their own money-grabbing ideas. The club were told that putting silent, semi-corporate zones in the second tiers at the south ends of the east and CB stands would destroy any link between the first and third tiers. It was an obvious problem but the club went ahead. And they put another silent block in the second tier of the south stand. And then there's the fucking tunnel club when lots of fans who had sat there since the move (and in similar seats at Maine Road) were just turfed out as part of another money making exercise. Chuck in the coaches full of school kids who couldn't give a fuck about City, the half 'n' half scarf wankers, and the rugby fans who piss off after 80 minutes and it's hardly a surprise that we have an atmosphere problem.
The only answer I can suggest is several more blocks where sitting won't be enforced and a giant season ticket swap shop so fans could move in or out of that area.
And a total ban on the fucking awful pre-match videos. The first one was terrible, the second even worse and the one for this season plumbed even greater depths. Not one of them has roused the fans, they just kill any effort to get behind the team. YNWA is a fucking dirge yet it gets the dippers going, that Grand Old Team tune at Goodison is akin to a music hall ditty but it gets the blue dippers on their feet (for at least 30 seconds). We get a range of videos that could be sold as part of a funeral package.
The atmosphere has been pretty good at almost every away game this season. Perhaps the club should ask those of us who travel for advice.

The club does listen.
The club does talk to the fans.
It holds meetings.
Etc.
But it's after that where the problem is.
The club and football in this country in general is suffocated by rules, regulations, H&S, 'customer' matchday experience', etc.
1894 have had discussions with the club on many occasions to try and improve the atmosphere.
1894 have put ideas forward that we honestly think will improve the atmosphere, but the club have said no. TBF, the club have explained why. Hmmm?
Saying that, the club have allowed 1894 to use some of our ideas, but we felt there might be or would be a backlash from certain sections of our fanbase.
It's trying to find that very fine balance that pleases everybody. Pretty much impossible, TBH.
There is plenty of genuine good will from with-in the club. But that is tempered by rules, regulations, and a sense of trepidation from some with-in the club, as to how much power and control to give the fans.
That isn't to say the club don't do their own thing to improve the atmosphere.
The club have a dedicated events team, who also work with 1894 regarding displays, banners, etc. The club do their own displays, as you will have noticed this season.
So there is a will by the club to improve the atmosphere at the Etihad. To a point.
Saying that, the fans need to do their bit as well. It's not solely the responsibility of the club to try and create an atmosphere.
On too many occasions this season and in previous seasons the fans in general have been (very) quiet. Waiting for the team to create a reason to sing. Even when the team do, the singing and support doesn't last long. And let's be honest, we've never had it so good. So there isn't a reason not to support the team throughout the match.

Let me give you 1 example. Perhaps a minor example. Visual.

There are 6 wheelie bins at the back of 115 full of flags. The flags are no longer used. The club used to have staff handing them out in-front of the entrances to the terraces. They no longer do. Since then the flags have never been used. 1000's of fans pass those bins every home match, but nobody takes a flag on to the terraces with them.

1 picture of what the South Stand used to look like when the flags were used.

But the club is complicate of dumbing down the atmosphere inside the stadium as well.

This is more visual than noise, but it adds to the feeling and atmosphere inside the stadium.

In the rush to increase revenue the club put electronic screens around the full length of level 2. They then banned flags that used to hang on level 2. To appease the fans anger the club then started using pointless electronic flags, which don't work, and have little or no visual impact inside the stadium.

So we went from this, there are other picture's ion Google images, to the current electronic flags.

It's not the same and never will be.

Those 2 examples are visual.

We have discussed the North stand expansion on BM for an age now. And 1894 have asked about it. We were told it's on-going..... Not using the clubs words. On the back burner. Will probably happen. But other things are currently going on-behind the scenes. Manchester University Sports Campus, etc. As we know from snippets coming out and a bit of digging.

Perhaps our owners don't do things this way. In-fact they don't. The CFA is just 1 example. But it would be nice if the club came out and said in public to the fans that we will be expanding the Nort Stand in the future. We are evaluating designs. There is a possibility of a double or a single tier.(that 99% of City fans want) We are looking at creating a purpose built singing section in an expanded North stand. We will be discussing any expansion of the North Stand with the fans in the future. Listening to the fans, and taking on-board their views and suggestions.(What is the problem and issue with doing that?)

That aside, some ideas of my own. Some have already been posted. There are a million and one more that can be put forward. But all are pointless if the club don't act on some of them and improve the atmosphere at the Etihad. I said atmosphere, not the matchday experience. Cough! ;-)

Getting the fans into the ground and to their seats earlier.
Opening and closing City Square earlier.
Getting fans through security checks quicker.(it has improved)
Closing the bars earlier. Before the start of the match, and when the 2nd half starts. There is no need to have a bar open just before or just after kick off serving beer, etc, bar for making £'s!
Less white noise inside the stadium before the start of the match. Allows the fans to create an atmosphere.
Allow fans to bring their own flags and banners in once again, and to leave them tied to the tiers(level 3), if the fans want.
Start handing out the flags again and collecting them. SSL1.
Split the flags/bins and give half to 110 and 111. Hand the flags out there as well.
Looking to the future.
Go around the supporters branches and have points of view atmosphere meetings, discussing the (lack) of atmosphere, and want the fans think about it, what can be done to improve the atmosphere. *And implement some of those ideas*.
Etc.

I appreciate there is a rush to increase revenue at City. Sadly that rush has had a negative impact on the atmosphere at the Etihad. Within that rush there has to be a place to create, foster, and improve the atmosphere at the Etihad. If there isn't, the Etihad will be nothing more than a quiet and soleless revenue generating stadium/machine. Nobody, not even at City, never mind the fans, wants that.

More inter stand rivalry would help -remember the Kippax goading the North Stand -give us a song at Maine Road-before every home game next season a few minutes of Bring on the Champions to rouse the pre match slumber.Kippax used to sing the name of every player when they were read out at the start of the game

We need to drop Bluemoon it’s so slow and uninspiring like a dirge. The club should invite fans to inven a new upbeat club anthem that stirs the fans to sing it and the players will respond to the atmosphere accordingly.

East stand start with : Oh when the blues
South stand ; Oh when the Blues

Go marching in repeated builds up the song and allows the whole ground to join in as it develops
