City to expand Etihad to 62,000?

Attended a supporters club meeting last night in Alkrington attended by representatives of the club who did a Q&A and there were some very interesting bits the came up:

1. The club will be redeveloping the North Stand and are looking at the prospect of redeveloping it as a single tier stand!!
2. There are plans for a new larger superstore although this will still be a standalone rather than incorporated into the new stand.
3. City Square to relocated as part of the redevelopment, will be made larger, with more food and drink concessions, and be partially covered.
4. Smaller fanzones around the south end of the ground.
5. multi storey car parks to take up the slack when land around the collar site is redeveloped.
6. The lights on top of the spikes are very expensive to replace - damage caused by birds!
7. Collar site to feature varied retail and food outlets alongside University buildings. Development of these are to be such as not to effect the imposing nature of the stadium.

The club will continue to do things not seen at other grounds and work for some of the up and coming developments could begin in the next 18 months subject to the relevant approvals/consultations..

It’s a fucking farce isn’t it? How it’s got this bad in Manchester is a scandal!

Watching City across Europe has really opened my eyes about how shit our infrastructure is. An equivalent train journey in Germany of Manchester to London takes about one hour. Politicians have ignored public transport for the last 35 years and have allowed our roads to crumble. Its killing the economy outside London.
Politicians don't give a shit because most of them get expenses for most of their journeys and always travel First Class on the taxpayer. The average train speed in the UK is 60 mph. The latest fastest train in Japan can go more than 300mph! We are a joke.

Really interesting! I think the next 10 years will really exciting!

Well, if we do try and build a massive 1-tier dortmund style end, similar to whats spuds are building, it would mean all existing season tickets in that stand to be relocated, wouldnt be able to simply tack it onto the back of the stand as the last expansion required.
So where would they go then? we sellout every game at home in the league as it is, with something like 48000 season ticket holders, thats only around 7k none ST seats to cater for the Family stand to move into whilst building works are completed, and then when it has been done will Family stand members want to stand in the new end? I very much doubt it. So the entire family stand would probably need to be moved anyway, where would they go? In the opposite end next to the away fans? Thats another no no, so we will have a bit of a compromise required to actually get the new stand built.
Ideally, the newly built safe standing terrace can hold both the singing section and the away fans, with the family stand in South Stand

Well they changed the tune, in January we did corp and got told by the corp manager that it’s another tier on to mirror ss...
So thats as much as he knows then!

They have spent billions on HS1, Crossrail, the London Overground, Thameslink etc... just completely ignored anywhere north of Watford.

It could show the Japanese and their Bullet Trains a thing or two about cancellations, punctuality, and service.

Who wants a train to arrive and depart at the exact second? And never be late, be cancelled, or breakdown?

Unfortunately for the North, no matter what political party is in power, they all tow the London must come first and last line.

If you remember, it was Labour who blocked and wouldn't fund the Metrolink Big Bang proposal. Metrolink small bang was only funded after Manchester launched a campaign to get the original Metrolink big bang money reinstated. Only enough money was given to go ahead with a Metrolink small bang.

Think about this.

The Metrolink line from the Etihad to Piccadilly Train Station was supposed to be up and running by 2002 and the Commonwealth Games. It wasn't up and running until 2012. 10 years later. A 2 mile stretch of tram line. 10 years late. Lol! This country and the Government's who run it are a joke.
In France, China, Japan, etc, that 2 mile stretch of tram line would have built in a year.

There's more, but I would explode with rage! The Dome. The London Olympics. Converting the Olympic stadium to a football stadium for West Ham. The list of projects and the over spend for London is endless.
