Julen Lopetegui: Real Madrid name New head coach

Couldn't believe it when he nearly joined Wolves.
Not an earthshattering appointment and he's going to have to make some tough decisions dismantling a very successful side but at least he has the connections to bring in top class replacements.
 
Good guy but uninspiring, looks a choice of desperation by RM & Flo. Gotta believe Spain's odds to win the WC start tanking now

Can't wait for him to walk this back though as he has to stick to the script

Not really. AVB had one of the greatest seasons of all time at Porto, whereas Lopetegui was pretty terrible at Porto and was fired with them in 3rd after bombing out of the CL.

Genuinely a bit baffled as to how he has a reputation at all, as his only club job was Porto and he was pretty awful. His entire reputation is built on doing well with a ridiculously stacked Spain underage team. It's like Man United hiring Gareth Southgate

That Porto season of AVB was 7 years ago and he certainly hasn't built on it much since then, I'm surprised Real Madrid weren't aiming considerably higher than either of them tbh.
