Froome favourite but big cobble stage this year. He struggled on them in the past, and if it rains it's lottery time.

From memory, he has only ridden on a cobble stage on one occasion (2016?). In 2014, he pulled out of the race during the cobble stage, not making it to the pave. In 2016, he rode them perfectly well. Along with Nibali, the best GC rider on that stage.

The cobbles can be a lottery as anyone can pick up a puncture or mechanical at the wrong time. Assuming no GC rider has any terrible luck, I would think Nibali, Thomas, Froome, Valverde and Dumolin will pick up time on the likes of Quintana and Landa. Not sure how Bardet and Porte will go. I guess the latter will be holding on for dear life on the coat-tails of GVA. If any GC rider could pick up a good chunk of time, it will be Thomas. Hopefully, there are some strong crosswinds.
