Double your money and get a cheap replacement. Rinse and repeat. Southampton have been very canny like that in recent years.Why would they sell a player for 27 million they signed for 15 only a year ago who still has masses of time on his contract? Wouldn't even be worth their while.

They don't want to be a selling club though, and they are definitely trying to at the very least cultivate the idea that will drive a hard bargain after the VVD saga. I think next time a top 6 club comes in for one of their players they'll do the same again. If they just role over they'll continue to get picked apart every summer. Also they quoted us a pretty high price for Bertrand if the reports were true.
