Blues at the World Cup

Though all players are allowed 3 weeks off after their participation in the WC comes to an end, some might not and some wont need it ie Mendy. The GPC used to agree a deal with some of his players in situations like this and would allow them a 10 day mid season break if they came back after 2 weeks.
Dropping points at the beginning of the season due to lack of players has the same impact at any other time of the season.
We need to be first out of the blocks.

Players needing a rest: - Walker, Stones, Kompany, De Bruyne

Players who can come back soon:- Otamendi, D.Silva, B. Silva, Sterling, Fernandinho, Jesus

Players who can return ASAP:- Ederson, Mendy, Delph, Danilo, Aguero, Gundogan

I have seen a lot of this Mendy can come back soon stuff. Pretty weird, it isn't just about how much football you have played. You have committed over a month (depending how far you get) to your national team at a time you would be off normally.

I want every player back ASAP of course but every player deserves the correct amount of time off before hand.

And for 8 months of last season he was on holiday when he would be at work normally. Barcelona, New York, Abu Dhabi, Marseilles, back at Monaco, the superbowl in Minnesota...

This break is for 2 things - Physical recovery from playing dozens of games, and mental recovery from the repetitive grind of playing football every day for 9 months.

Mendy needs neither of those. He's not played and he's had plenty of nice breaks over the season.

I don't begrudge him any of that, I bet he'd much rather have been playing, but it's incredibly obvious why if he's serious he'll take less holiday than someone like Walker or KDB. He's playing catch up here next season and getting as much preseason time as possible will be key to that.

What about mental recovery for being out injured for so long? Watching your team mates break every record going and you should be a part of it? He hasn't had breaks through choice, he grafted his tits off to get fit again, probably sooner than expected then after that spent the summer training for the world cup. It isn't all about minutes on the pitch. Silva had "plenty of breaks" last year but again through no fault of his own. He was also knocked out of the competition over two weeks ago now yet a man who was training up until yesterday you demand back ASAP? If he does it through his own choice then brilliant, shows a good sign of commitment. Should anyone think any less of him if he didn't? Of course not.

Are you really trying to compare David Silva going to see his son in intensive care to Mendy going to the superbowl and Abu Dhabi GP?

You really are a stupid twat.

We having a ban here mods? Abusing a fellow poster calling him a twat? Let’s have a bit of consistency here guys.

The circumstances no, completely different. The point is in both neither had periods out of the team through choice. Mendy didn’t piss off on a beano did he. He was injured, he then worked his bollocks off to come back.

So you are still trying to draw comparisons between an emergency stop to visit your son in hospital and a midseason holiday because you can't play?

Mendy didn't want to be out of action, but he was, he doesn't have to recover physically from a 40 game season or mentally from the footballers daily routine because he got plenty of breaks last season.

For a bit of context, the season after Kompany spent a long injury lay off in LA, he turned up 3 weeks early to preseason.

Gundogan was training on his own last season in June while everyone else was away on holiday so he'd male the start of the season - he didn't need another holiday after 8 month out.

Stones has said he's so eager to keep momentum up that he's coming back early.

So Mendy can certainly make do with a shorter holiday than the lads who played 90 minutes every game of the world cup.

Stones has said he will be back in time for the Chelsea Community Shield, he just wants to keep the momentum going.
