England finish 4th.

So why did we create so little from open play? Most of our attacks were designed to win corners, have the ball at our back 3 passing it around or having right down the other end of the pitch. The entire set up was to hide the lack of ability on the ball.

Not for the reasons you gave.

Nor were most of attacks 'designed to win corners'.

You've made that up as well.

Kane didn't get enough service from the midfield to showcase his goal getting talent.
We were reliant on set pieces.

Aguero was similarly starved of service,
Falcao,a similar sort of striker to Kane did very little for Colombia too.

This England side did better,in terms of progression, than expected.
Better midfielders, who can create more, retain possession,or create something from nothing are needed before England ever win a final.

What midfield ?
We just dont have the reqd world class players to win either the WC or Euro's, thats why very few English players play abroad, theyre not in demand.

However the FA were lucky to get Southgate by default, a decent guy who has polished a turd.......... lets face it those morons at the FA wanted Big Sam and more 442 hoofball

Ha yes precisely,Henderson was decent overall,Lingard was ok ish,Ali was very disappointing, and was persisted with, which validates your point, there was no one better or even as good to bring in.

Yea. It’s a side effect of the Premiership to some extent. Too many ready made internationals bought in to fill the slots at the top clubs leaving talented players like Cheek to grub around un the mud with lower level teams and players in his formative years. I hope we handle Foden differently.

England were shite long before the PL was formed. Importing foreign managers and players has at least improved the smaller number of players England has to pick from.

France win the world cup and the manager gets a subway station named in his honour. England beat Tunisia and Panama and Southgate gets the same treatment.

What a bunch of deluded losers the fans and powers that be are.

We're the new Wales of international football.

But Lingard and Alli aren't midfielders. Similarly Sterling isn't a No. 10 and Walker a centre half. We need to get a side
with players in their proper position. Especially midfielders, but I don't know where they are going to come from.
Mason Mount has been mentioned and is a cracking player, but he doesn't play at Premier League level, so I can't see
him getting picked, anytime soon.
