City vs Dortmund (Friendly) Post Match Thread

I actually thought Bolton had a good game and got the better of Sancho unless you're Simple Simon at the BBC who has his own agenda to pedal.

He did a piece on Joe Hart yesterday and once again opens it for comments attracting every scorned football fan there is, he's a ****.

IIRC the season Mancini managed us to the title, we lost all our pre-season games whilst the rags won all theirs. Pre-season games mean nothinng, apart from building up match fitness. Everton won 22-0 last week. Have the bookies slashed them to odds on for the league?

Hmmm....some people seem to be divvying up careers from 2/3 - 1 game on an American football field amongst players who have NEVER EVER played together at their own age group, let alone against a Bundesliga team at least one week and onengame ahead of them.

Seriously? This was a training game that will have allowed Pep to see a few fringe players and give some greater experience to players that will never see a first team squad.

It was decent run out that we bossed early on. After BD got into their stride, they had a few combinations that cut us apart and got in behind. However, it highlighted some players that will definitely get a closer look in preseason and may even elevate themselves into the First Team squad this season or next.

Nmecha is a big strong lad that I would like to see play with the first team. He is prolific at his current level, but 5 mins here and there with the first team doesn’t help him. He needs a game or three to see if he’s got it or not, or is a “nearly or never” City first team player.

Garcia looked silky and well schooled, which is no surprise. Give him another season of growth and development and he may well save us a bundle on a Vinny or Nic replacement.

Mahrez? Well, he got 70 mins in his legs. Sané? Wouldn’t get in the Germany team on his cameo, but there were a few flashes that showed he’s warming up to the season.

Zinchenko had a nightmare. Sorry, mate, as I like you!

If we had got the (very bad) call on the non-offside, non-penalty, non-red card incident against Nmecha, it might have livened the game up as both teams went for the win, but the longer the game went, the more it looked like a second goal for BD rather than a first for us.

Saw absolutely nothing to worry about AT ALL, but saw a few young players who look like they may cut the mustard, which is, after all, what this was all about.

The Future is Blue...and we saw some of it tonight!
You’ll not be popular as that is a much too sensible post!

Every single one of our players who played this morning would be comfortable in our first team with 10 first teamers, it was just that it was like our youth team playing last night against a more experience first team.

How did Sancho play for them?

Just a run out, we didnt have the greatest start to pre season this time last year. Good to read that some kids look like they will make a claim over the next few years.
I did not see the game but bbc webpage has a full article about Sancho and how we have made a mistake in letting him go.

Brahim- First touch let him down which is usually very good. Seemed to be trying too hard to impress.
Garcia- Immense performance. True Pep style defender.
Luiz- Hit or miss to be honest. Did some good things but the build up leading to the goal was his fault and seemed to be caught out of position.
Roberts- If we didn't have Sterling, Mahrez and Silva on the right side, he'd be a good option to have as a depth player. So dangerous on the attack.
Bolton- Great work rate but it was easy to tell that he was playing out of position.
Denayer- Honestly, looked really good.
Foden- Very average. Had some good moments in the game. Weight of his passes were off.
Dele-Bashiru- That mispass was a gut punch but he plays with a lot of energy.
Nmecha- Clearly onside on that one play. Worked hard but no real service.
Zinchenko- Clear weak link in the back 4.

Sancho- Always threatening in one on ones. Physically more ready than either Foden or Brahim. His overall team IQ looks off though. Doesn't seem to pick the right pass or movement.

Written by that renowned arbiter of fairness, Simon Stone
Say no more SF.
Seemingly suits his skewed version of City matters to write this way.
Sorry, I thought it was a match report rather than a series of chosen ex or nearly ex City players he chooses to write about.

Just watched the highlights, looked ok.

Just one observation but Denayer with all that hair waving behind him.....cant help his game surely.

Ok to have daft hair when you stop playing but trying to make a name for yourself not sure, the drag factor alone ;)
