I would call it a 2-3-2-3:

.............................Keeper
.................CB......................CB.................
RWB.....................DM.......................LWB
..............RAM....................LAM................
...RW.....................CF................LW.........

Edit: it's not static anyway. We need to be variable vs a deep static defense.
THIS^^^^^^^

It’s a defensive “M” with a midfield “W” and an attacking “VVV” with City looking to play between the “lines” that other teams set up.

So we started:
  • Ederson
  • Walker
  • Stones
  • Laporte
  • Mendy
  • Gündogan
  • Fernandinho
  • Mahrez
  • Bernardo Silva
  • Sterling
  • Agüero
Used Substitutes
  • De Bruyne
  • Sane
  • Jesus
Un-used Substitutes
  • Bravo
  • Kompany
  • Otamendi
  • Foden
Not in squad
  • Delph
  • Danilo (injured)
  • Zinchenko
  • Diaz
  • David Silva
I think we'll go with a couple of changes for the home game. With only 1 injury this is a tough time for Pep. How do you leave 5 players out every week for a month??

With Huddersfield most likely playing deep and compact I'd like to see Jesus and Aguero start.

It'd give us more of a goal threat and would allow Mendy to maraud forwards.

Ederson
Walker Stones Laporte Mendy
KDB Dinho B.Silva
Sterling Aguero Jesus

I wonder if Huddersfield will try to stifle us like they did last year. It worked for 35 minutes.

G.Jesus Aguero Mahrez
Bernardo De Bruyne
Mendy Gundogan Walker
Laporte Stones
Ederson

Bravo, Otamendi, Kompany, Fernandinho, Foden/Silva, Sterling, Sane

So difficult to choose but given that we're facing a team that has pretty successfully parked the bus against us in the past and Pep has openly talked about trying different things to combat it I could see a few changes
  • GJ up top with Aguero for an extra body in the box, Mendy providing the width
  • Gundogan over Dinho due to being better on the ball & Dinho not looking particularly matchfit
  • I assume Mahrez was bought to play these games
  • Walker can create some overlaps but I'd expect KDB to be under/overlapping Mahrez more often with Walker almost playing in a back 3 vs any counter
Wouldn't surprise me tho if we went the opposite route in the wing positions in terms of spreading Huddersfield's backline and then overloading the space infront of their CBs with Mahrez moving inside. A similar setup to the 1st half of the CL 2nd leg vs LFC with an extra attackminded midfield player

Sane --------- Aguero ------- Sterling
Bernardo Mahrez De Bruyne
Fernandinho
Laporte Stones Walker
Ederson

Bravo, Mendy, Otamendi, Kompany, Gundogan, Foden/Silva, G.Jesus

Choices, choices...
