This will def be a tricky game that we shouldn't take lightly as they have the type of players all over the pitch that could do damage in a short amount of time. Can't afford to give away cheap fouls in dangerous areas as Memphis and Fekir are great dead ball specialist, can't afford to sleep on the counter because they have a Mendy of their own that can break quickly, this one actually cuts inside and scores from LB. Traore needs to be marked at all times and they just added Dembele from Celtic. All of that before discussing their talented midfield trio of Houssem Aouar,Lucas Tousart and of course Tanguy Ndombele. It makes sense that Pep drilled into the players about being more clinical and addressing their mistakes ahead of a game like this because even though we walked away 3-0 vs Fulham, Lyon will be all over our mistakes. Now, if we play our game and do the hard work their back four is the weakest part of their game. Denayer got beat in the air that put Caen up, Marcelo and ex rag Rafael should be targeted at all times.

I would play 4-3-3:
Ederson
Walker Stones Laporte Delph
Bernardo Fernandinho Silva
Sterling Gabriel Jesus Sane

Yet to play the top 6 teams in a very weak French league ( PSG should win this league by 30 points plus this season ) and never scored more than 2 goals in a match yet.

I know you have to always be on your game no matter the opposition but this side would struggle to win over two legs against most of the premier league clubs.

On paper at least this is our easiest home game to date this season and that includes Huddersfield.

Game's not played on paper. Hoffenheim and Shakhtar play in even weaker leagues and are nowhere near as talented as Lyon. Lyon have also dominated every game this season so far and were beaten by a deflected shot from distance and a bit of luck resulting in a headed goal before they rotated against Caen over the weekend. Lyon are much better than all the opposition we faced so far bar Arsenal.

Ederson
Walker Stones Laporte Delph
Gundogan
D Silva B Silva
Mahrez Jesus Sane

Subs: Muric, Kompany, Fernandinho, Aguero, Foden, Zinchenko, Sterling

Just watched Arteta's presser in place of Pep. Spoke extremely well.

Looks a manager in waiting. A tremendous player who, if he's the succession plan, I think will do very well with us when Pep moves on. Proof of the pudding will be in the eating but, it appears that he has everything.

I was shocked by how well spoken he was and knowledgeable and modest. Looks like he’s ready to manage by himself hopefully he sticks around and suceeds Pep I would be delighted.

ARTETA: This is the situation (Pep not on the touchline). This is what is happening. I am here, I will do my best to reduce impact of not having Pep on touchline. The rest is normal.

ARTETA: That’s the aim (winning the UCL). We have a young squad, they have gained experience and we feel better prepared than previous two years. Tomorrow it starts a new competition.

ARTETA: First of all, i am privileged to be here and I am very fulfilled. But if you ask me one day will I be a head coach, the answer is probably yes. But we have fantastic momentum and there is lots of room for this Club to grow

ARTETA: Up to now, the preparation has been normal, the same process we normally do. Tomorrow, we cannot have any communication (with Pep). I will be on the touchline and I will try to make the right decisions.

ARTETA: Pep had a very clear role for me when he asked me to join the club. I had played in the Premier League for years. My learning here has been incredible. That will continue. The decision to stay (in the summer) was made and I am so happy.

Arteta is only 36, so hopefully if Pep does another 5 years (2 year extension), arteta will be willing to wait and take over. he'd only be 41!
