Sentence starting

No reason not to start a sentence with a conjunction, the reason we were taught not to was the old grafting of Latin rules onto a Germanic language. Same reason people were told not to split infinitives (you can't in Latin, you can in English) which is a ludicrous and pointless rule with no reason for it whatever. English is supremely flexible, with relatively few firm rules on structure. The basic requirement is simply to know what you're doing and if doing something for emphasis, that's fine.

Not understanding how it works is the problem, which is why you get people saying "would of", which doesn't even make sense in isolation. Come the revolution, there's a world of pain in store for them.

Alas and alack! More and more don't know what they're saying, let alone understand how the language works.
