Since our takeover we have a net spend of around £987.8m on 68 senior team players. The rags in that same duration has a net spend of £842.98m but on 38 senior team players.
Important to note that we had to buy more in the offset because we were 9th in the league. They however entered the same timeframe being league champion. Obviously we had to convince more, pay more and buy more to get the right balance in squad and coaches.
Also they had free players in Sanchez, Ibrahimovic and Owen. We had free players in Sagna, Sylvinho and Hargreaves. Hardly comparable in value.
The difference between £987m and £847m in net spend isn’t that significant afterall when considering that we got almost twice the number of players that they bought. Also their net spend has been buffered by their £60m+ Ronaldo sale.
Rather than scrikin about being unable to compete with City and our supposed £2billion investment, the rags should look at problems in their own household - buying players at extravagant value and not replacing ageing players. They likely have to spend another 300m to at least create a decent team. City on the other hand is set for the future needing only minor tweaks such as a replacement for Fern, and maybe a second young striker and a Claudio replacement, but that is about it really.
It sure is romantic to win the league like Leicester, but City and our owners is not about winning once, but sustaining the winning model for many years to come.
