I’ve suggested this in the past, but only if Fernandinho was injured/suspended and we needed someone to boss the midfield for a few games until he returned. The net loss to our play just shades to negative, it just happens to be less of a net negative (in my mind, anyway) than playing anyone else we have available in that role (if everyone else is healthy, that is, so we can put the Silvas ahead of Kev), especially against the better sides.

This should only ever be a stopgap — we need to get a replacement for Dinho, end of.

maybe turning laporte into the role would be a good idea has got great feet and can spot a pass and loves a tackle ?? but again why change somebody that is world class at what he does, the club and pep will sort the role and the market is good so spend on the right man or maybe 2

I've been thinking about this more and more. We need a replacement for Fernandinho, he's getting older and we need to have someone anchoring that midfield.

What do people think about playing KdB there? Behind the two Silvas (or Silva/Foden) - I seem to remember Martinez doing this with him playing for Belgium. Thoughts? I think he's such a good player he could do it - we hankered after Jorginho but he's a much better player than him.

City fans think that a deep midfielder has to be a Nigel de Jong / Delph in the strong tackling mode.

I think I agree with them to an extent. Fern has got both sides to his game. But you are obviously right - we went for Jorginho in the Summer and he is no Kante or Fern. KDB could play the deep playmaker role like Alonso at Bayern
