Huawei P30 Pro

Not sure why ordinary folks would care about China spying on them, everyone spies theses days. At least with Snowden it's proven the US spies on its own people and foreigners.

Unless you are trying to incite a regime change in China or independence in Tibet and Xinjiang provinces, the Chinese government very likely could not give a rats arse where we do our shopping or what messages we are sending to our mistress lol

Unless of course you work for the government, military or another branch of critical national infrastructure. In this case China may be very interested in your shopping habit's, financial dealings/gambling habits or sexual affairs. That kind of stuff is gold when it comes to exerting influence over someone; especially if you don't want your partner or employer to know what you are up to.

Yes of course.

Doesn’t matter wether you believe in the Chinese spying with that company, withdrawal of Android support for Huawei’s smartphones means they are dead by the end of the year. There will be no play store, no android updates and no bug fixes.

Return it.
Many thanks

This Trump bollocks is a real mess.

It's made buying a Huawei phone right now, very unappealing. So what, you might think - there's plenty of other options.

Well there are some, yes. But what about OnePlus? They are Chinese as well. And Oppo. And ZTE. Are these going to be next on the "unsupported by Google" list?

And then what? How about phones made in China? 60% of the world's mobile phones come out of China. Even Samsung makes some of its phones in China and I believe all iPhones are made it China (not sure about this - it may be Taiwan).

And what about Kindles, PS4's, Xboxes? All made in China. I don't know about Google Home or Amazon Echo, but Google Assistant is in all sorts of devices made in China. If we were to be really serious about security threats, you'd have to ban those for sure!

The very disappointing aspect to all of this is that the manufacturers above make some of the most appealing phones right now. The P30 Pro has the best camera. The Oppo Reno is s gorgeous phone with 5G as well.

So right now, if you want an Android phone you're essentially forced to buy a Samsung or risk having bought a paperweight if/when the Huawei ban is extended to the others.

I think you're hysterical.

It's not a 'ban' - merely a stop on official OTA updates and access to the play store. The internet is a wondrous place, and undoubtedly there are already methods for putting tinder or whatever you need on your phone without going via official channels.

Google has had a face like a smacked arse since Amazon stopped selling their products.

It's all about money and boosting their own products.

Hysterical? Well perhaps a bit, but not much. No play store, no YouTube app etc and no OTA updates makes it unpurchaseable for the majority of buyers. Most buyers want a phone they can simply purchase and use as normal without having to resort to workarounds.

And then the burning question is, which manufacturer is next?
