We can cry about money being a motivator now but Tevez, Adebayor etc. only came to City for money initially. For some players money is the main thing, and why not? He has 12 years ahead of him, £200k a week at Barca who themselves look like they are about to have a break down (despite the league win) or £300k a week at United, it's a huge difference.
True.
But we only offered those wages initially to lure players here in the first place to catch up with the likes of United. Our stature at the time wasn’t big enough in itself. We also sold them a journey, and a vision of where the club was going on and of the pitch.
Now we have that stature, and pep, we have a strict wage bonus related Wage structure, and we won’t destroy that by paying Sanchez, etc, type wages.
The rumour is that the players shared £15mill in bonuses for doing the quadruple? Factor that into their annual wages. Parity to an extent, if not more money?
Success = reward.
