But we only offered those wages initially to lure players here in the first place to catch up with the likes of United. Our stature at the time wasn’t big enough in itself. We also sold them a journey, and a vision of where the club was going on and of the pitch.

Now we have that stature, and pep, we have a strict wage bonus related Wage structure, and we won’t destroy that by paying Sanchez, etc, type wages.

The rumour is that the players shared £15mill in bonuses for doing the quadruple? Factor that into their annual wages. Parity to an extent, if not more money?

I agree 100%, and now United are shit, they need to offer higher wages. I had no problem with City doing it and now I can just laugh that United have to.

Tevez came because he wasn't given enough playing time and he was in general treated with no respect by United. Was money a factor, of course and your point stands but Tevez was motivated by other factors too. United were said to offer him a handsome wage as well but at that stage Tevez wanted out.

Do we know for sure that City are / were in for him? It would be an obvious move on City's part but maybe we switched attention to Maguire with the English quotient in mind or took view that any player with the option of Barca would choose that so why waste time?

Of course, the pure footballing decision at this moment would surely be City, who have arguably the best team in Europe now and a relatively young squad that does not need a major rebuild; oh, and is managed by the best football coach of our time. Not to forget that the EPL has a very good claim to be the biggest and best league in Europe right now.

The big problem any player has joining City is that they have to face serious competition for their place.

I would say this is a case where we are not willing to pay what Barca or United is prepared to. Moreover, I also think that this is an indication that unless Leicester drop their Maguire valuation to 50m we won’t be signing him.

The players you named have all got those wages after earning a contract extension. If we pay a new 19 year old that sort of money they would rightly be questioning what he has done to earn it, and what will he want when it comes to his renegotiations, Its why the wage demands of our targets are far more relevant than transfer fees.
