But isnt FFP checking a 3 year period? So if Milan spends big now, ends up in financial losses but then qualify for CL then in next period this big loss will still be there...
of course CL income can improve that but if hey dont make CL would they fuck off EL again?

No. AC Milan knows they will get done by FFP. Problem is they are in a very bad spot. They were/are being sanctionned for the last years of Berlusconi and then they would get a sanction for the first years of their chinese owner.
Since they don't want to get several sanctions/bans, they are trying to negociate a single bundle of sanctions that they would gladly accept this year because they don't care about Europa League. So, being banned wouldn't be such a miss this year.

Still, they would have to balance their account to comply in the near future.
 
Their ban should be suspended until the next time they qualify for the CL - as Liverpool’s should have been. Their ban was a joke as they were banned for a year when they weren’t even in Europe IIRC

Not that I have much sympathy for AC Milan but isn't this just another FFP fit-up? Surely the club needs a big investment from its new owners to get back to the top table. Assuming they clear their debts, what is wrong with that? UEFA is spending its time attacking owners for investment but doing little to stop scandals like the match-fixing racket in Spain which has impacted on qualification for next year's Champions League.
It would make more sense to give Milan a heavy fine, use the money for grass roots football in Italy, and let them move on. That's not the way UEFA works though. Their decisions seem to be driven by who greases the most palms. ( I am aware that Berlusconi has form for this.)

I don't have sympathy for them either but contrary to PSG and City who had wealthy owners that brought with them some solid sponsors (considered related or not parties), Milan has almost 0 on the commercial side. While they are a big club and are well known, they missed the train to develop the brand. Thus, they experience troubles to adhere to the break even rule.

You highlight a sensible point when you mention the need of big investment to grow. This is what Elliot, the new owner, is asking from UEFA. They want UEFA to give them more time to be able to invest and have a successful business plan. They want 5 year when UEFA allows you 3 year time.
