Vegas

Ah right, I can't compare it to what it was like, but never had a problem, mostly played on the tables though. Yeah it's ridiculously expensive on the strip and in the casino bars. I remember paying something like $40 for a cocktail (jug) in ceasars
First went in 99, $1 tip per person got the attention of the waitress but beers were only about $2 anyway, gone way beyond that but still a great craic, have a good time.

Most of you sound like a Vegas Casino Owner’s wet dream!

Vegas isn’t about getting shitfaced, it is about staying in top class hotels, seeing great shows, and enjoying some excellent dining. You can get shitfaced anywhere. Why not do some of the GOOD STUFF, and have a real experience?! Saying, “I went to XYZ hotel, rented a cabana, got shitfaced” can be said about almost anywhere.

Go see the Dam, out to Red Rocks, play some $3/$5 Blackjack, have a good dinner every night, see a show every other night, fly the Grand Canyon...get a UNIQUELY VEGAS EXPERIENCE, and save the getting shitfaced for your trip to Blackpool! Also, LA is only a 5 hr drive away, so do an overnight trip to the beach (Malibu, Venice, Hermosa, Redondo, etc...), or do a cheap flight to San Fran and see the Golden Gate, ride the trams, head up to Muir Woods.

Why fly 1,000s of miles to waste your hard earned money on getting shitfaced when there is SO much else you can do?

EXPERIENCES last a lifetime, and will bring you far more memories, stories, and brushes with actual real Americans and American west coast life than a week of drunken debauchery.

Just a thought, but you earned it, you spend it anyway you want!
Have you been to Blackpool lately?

Capital Grille or Cut by Wolfgang Puck for a decent steak.

Maggiano’s for Italian. PF Chang’s for Asian fusion (not as swanky as the others but gets a mention anyway, the Mongolian lamb is outrageous.)

Tbh you can’t go wrong for dining in Vegas. So much quality food on offer there.
I’ll have a browse through those tomorrow. Cheers.

So here is a question to the knowledgeable ones ..is it possible to go to L.V and have fun without gambling ? .

Yes. Absolutely. In fact i tell people going not to bother with the gambling, a casino is a casino - you might aswell be at one in your local town centre.

I went with the wife last year and we had the best time - saw rod Stewart live at ceasers, pool party, went omnia nightclub, visited Grand Canyon and stopped off some old American diners on way, went rides on the stratosphere, New York rollercoaster, zoo near Mandalay and so many bars with live bands. Would go back again in a heartbeat , sod the casinos.

Now we are talking.. Big fanboy of Rodney and we saw a brilliant tribute act to him in the Dorm this year called The Rodfather. Those atmospheric bars live bands quality eateries and thrill rides sound very much good to go and not quite sure what the pilot from the windy city was banging on about when he said visit then just leave to see other places but each to their own.Grand canyon and Hoover dam would be on my shopping list.

If money is no object and you are doing a one off, then do Prime Steakhouse at the Bellagio. Book well in advance for a table in the patio so you can have your own “prime” view of the Bellagio fountain! Another excellent choice is Charlie Palmer Steak at the Four Season’s. Now, that place is primo expensive, but they have a “secret menu” called Cut of the Week, which is $58pp (£45) for a 3 course menu with bottomless table wine. CUT by Puck is a top choice, but like the Capital Grille, it is expensive, just so you know. They are all top drawer steakhouses if it’s a special dinner, but for the experience, I’d do the Bellagio IF it’s a one off, impressive experience you are looking for. Smith & Wollensky is another choice, also not inexpensive! I like The Outback Steakhouse near me in Chicago for a reasonably priced steak, but the one on the Strip was absolute shit when I was there last time and wouldn’t recommend it at all!
Maggiano’s is family style Italian. Love the Rigatoni D myself, and their house salad is excellent...and good for sharing! Not expensive.
PF Chang’s also does a Happy Hour, but if you get there later, try the Lettuce Wraps, Mongolian Beef and the Crispy Honey Chicken. Inexpensive.
