What is that? I don't want to use my mobile data as I've only got 6gb a month and it uses it up quite fast.

Just to see if issue is with device or isp turn off router switch on personal hotspot on your phone connect device to hotspot and try to connect if connection is good you know the issue is with isp.

No I'm using wi-fi, should I use cable?

Be no harm to try before going down the VPN route.
