The most challenging thing you’ve done?

Doing the offshore survival for the first time
My phobia is being underwater so being strapped into a mock helicopter, lowered into a pool and tipped upside down a few times was complete terror, I did it to see how I'd react, it was torture.
The other was being a pension trustee for 5 years with no financial background, being sat in some fine institutions in London listening to hedge fund managers pitching was about as out of my depth as I could get. Good buzz though

I saved a suicidal drugged up 19 year old lad from burning to death in his flat in 86. I was at my mates flat in Ashton west end. We noticed a flat opposite was on fire. So I run down the stairs and across to the flat opposite , then run up 6 floors. 2 big bare chested guys in the flat across the hall just looked on helpless. I bust the door open and the guy tried to punch me, so i grabbed his arms and marched him to the guys s dtold them to ring an ambulance. I went inside and the smoke was black and choking. He had set his sofa on fire. I grabbed a tea towel and wet it under the tap and put it over my face so I could breathe. I then dragged his quilt off the bed and put it in the bath and sort it and then threw it on the sofa. I was asking if anyone else was there like a kid overcome by the smoke. When I was satisfied the fire was out I opened the windows to let the smoke out and left the scene.

On leaving the building the fire brigade turned up. I walked past them and caught the bus home When I got home the first thing a did was make a cup of tea, and put the radio on. I heard the heard the news that an unknown 'hero' had saved a guy from a blazing flat in Ashton. I just did what came natural and saved his life. A week or so later his mother found out where my mate lived and knocked on the door.
She was overjoyed and so thankful I saved her son's life.

That’s a fantastic thing to do mate.

I've heard that Bob. What's your most challenging thing, carrying 2 guns?

A few years ago, I was involved in the recue/recovery of the body of a fallen hill walker in Snowdonia.

By the time we got the call that the guy was missing, presumed fallen I'd been out in the mountains over 8 hours already that day. At this point, he was still presumed missing.

At gone 10pm, I was scrambling up into a wet gully with a stretcher and placing the mangled body of a 19 year old lad into a body bag. I then had to escort his 3 friends down off the mountain.

By the time we got off the mountain I'd been out over 18 hours. A long and sh*tty day, and I can still remember the smell to this day
