Man Utd could have blown us out of the water.

why do you think £400.000 basic wage is out of our reach ?? manchester city can live with the so called big teams and in fact its can they live with us

in the next 5 years manchester city will be right up there in terms of revenue and still clear of any FFP and debt free, football and its market is not based around one club and united are not as big like they keep banging on about, and the gap is closing quickly between them and manchester city, and if city keep on winning silverware like we have been doing in the past 10 years then the revenue gap will be closed

the only reason manchester city don't flash the cash is because we don't want or need them type of players anymore ?? the club stands alone on what we are and you come to city to play football and win silverware and then get rewarded, ask yourself why have united have got to do what they do and offer wages like £400.000 a week for a keeper and you will get your answer, MANCHESTER CITY

Just reading today that the De Gea contract offer is c. £400k pw Basic!

Now that doesn't so much matter when Man Utd are underperforming and outside the Champions League, but how imagine that post Ferguson, they had recovered. There's no way we, could compete with that. I think it was a deliberate strategy by Man Utd to inflate the wages and transfer market to a level where City could not compete.

Fortunately their coaching and recruitment has been bodged, but they could easily have killed City's growth off.

As it is, City are fast closing the gap to Man Utd's revenue generation and the'r competitive advantage will not remain intact for much longer. I am basing that that on the historic progression of both club's revenues over the last 5 years.

Is a very good insight indeed.

That has been the business model of the ‘top’ clubs for years. Being top dog brings in more money which they then use to hoover up the best players which ensures they win more which brings in more money and so it goes on. Chelski and then City broke the mould and now they are all having problems from the rags to the German rags and so on. No doubt they will be given a helping hand by UEFA, scrapping FFP anyone. PL already scrapped the pay structure of their FFP so that the rags can pay what they like.

Throwing cash like confetti at players just to keep them out of our reaches is their downfall, as soon as it was reported the numbers involved in the Sanchez deal then it was only going to go one way, egos take over and his salary is the benchmark now, even second rate academy strikers with a 15 goal a season ratio are demanding 200k a week. This will take years to put right, that's if they ever can.

Paying DDG 400K a week is good business sense. For them to get a player of his calibre as replacement would cost them just as much in transfer fees. If it was the Warrington rat that they were offering daft money too then you could agree that they were distorting the market.

They have someone who is second to him who is as good and better at distribution the ball!
