Should tactical fouls become a red card offence?

There was 1 v west ham where silva was running along side the player who was going no where, had no passing options and was about to be closed down by rodders too, so he just fell to the ground and got a free kick. Defenders dive more than strikers now a days. Whenever they are pressed they just go down and nearly every time get a free kick.
Silva looked at the ref in total disbelief. When they ran the replay I thought we would see a subtle trip or shirt pull but there was literally nothing, he just fell as if someone had chopped his legs off.

There is a difference between a press foul and a deliberate foul. In the press foul the pressee tries to get the ball but a bit of the opponent gets in the way often a deliberate act by the defending player. Not even a yellow IMHO, even on foul count up.
Then there is the foul as a player comes in from behind trying to catch up with the player to nick the ball. If he Nick's the ball no foul if he takes the player it should be a yellow.
The trouble is for the latter offence virtually every foul our opponents commit is in this category. If it was red carded we would be playing against 8 players rather quickly unless the referee allows our opponents to get away with it - which they currently do. As an example, see the Community shield where Liverpool got away with at least 8 such technical fouls mostly in the in the second half. Indeed Liverpool would have been down to 10 as a result of the Sane foul with most of the first half still to play.

Rodrigo had one on Saturday and McTominay had one on Sunday, neither was booked. Both were similar challenges, breaking up play when they knew they were behind the ball, but the referee showed leniency.

Problem is that many fouls can be construed as tactical, and central midfielders tend to commit the most fouls, so you’d end up with far too many sending offs.

No chance, it's bad enough getting offside goals and penalties etc checked, it's a game of football, a contact sport and nobody could conclusively decide with any certainty whether a foul was tactical.... Back in the day, none of these ankle taps, followed by a Tom Daly special would have been called as fouls.. Over reffing football is killing the game, less is definitely more but it's not panning out that way, much to my frustration.....:-(

We’d be playing against 8 men every game lol

True. Last season there was ne'er a game at The Etihad where the instigator of one of our attacks wasn't removed from the equation and because the move continued we were granted the 'benefit' of advantage! It could happen half a dozen times and only rarely did the culprit get a yellow. But I think the scourge of the modern game is timewasting. it was interesting to see the explanation as to why subs have to go off at the nearest spot. It suggested that it would 'cut down' time wasting. WTF should it cut it down. Surely the time would have been added on at the end. It appears that some of the time wasted might not have been.

Amen to that. When was the last time you saw a quick free kick? Defending players congregate around the ball, partly to moan at the referee about the decision and partly to prevent the attacking team from taking the kick, which slows the game right down.

Referees should put the ball down, spray the area around it, and sprint away ten yards. Anyone attempts to slow it down, booking.

Just read the official laws of the game & nowhere does it mention “tactical foul”
Just more made up bullshit which has no meaning whatsoever. (Nice one Neville)

Without defining what a tactical foul is in the laws of the game, there’s no point in anyone talking about it.
I don't see that a definition is required, any foul where the offender clearly makes no attempt to play the ball should always be at least a yellow card offence and occasionally red depending on the situation.
