Injury Updates

I had surgery on my right knee after a torn meniscus 6 years ago.
I was back running in about 2 months that was when I was in my mid 30s.
I would imagine 3 months approx for him.

It can vary - I had the same op as you on my right knee when I was in my mid-40's and was back running after 4 weeks. That was without all the specialised rehab that Eric will get. I had a similar op on my left knee 5 years earlier & it took a few weeks longer. I agree that 3 mths sounds realistic for a big guy like him playing top class football.

I’m more worried about the possible damage to the articular cartilage rather than the meniscus. They made a point to mention that there was a meniscus injury as well as cartilage damage and if it’s an articular tear I believe that recovery time is 12-18 weeks.

Edit: did some googling and that particular injury could be up to 6 months.
Agree with you about the cartilage. However I wonder if the reference to cartilage is with regards to the meniscus which itself is a type of cartilage (fibrocartilage). If articular cartilage has been damaged I’m afraid that could be bad news...

Ah up our kid

I've had the chop and thanks for the chocs. (Might have been better without aunt vera's teethmarks in the hard centre ones but whatever)

Shame I won't be joining up with those bastards that never bothered to pick me before. Do the words "do one motherfuckers" mean anything you? Fuck you Didier!

Hopefully soon I'll be back where I am wanted and appreciated at the Etihad

'til then adieu

Eric

'au revoir' not 'adieu' - don't jinx it!

As we don't know the extent of the damage and operation any prediction of return is pure guesswork.

I personally don't expect any rushing back being a 100m asset. Some on here are also underestimating the problems of meniscus and cartilage rehab on the way back to full workload in the tough Premier League.

A blessing might be his position as CB, where his running is quite reduced and he can compensate a lot by a general body strength and good positioning.
He has to adapt his style of play to this injury.

IF he returns to training in December he maybe won't be matchfit before end of January, given the cold season
when bad weather and pitch conditions don't really help.

I would be happy if he returns for some FA cup minutes mid January and it would be perfect if he's back near full fitness
end of February for CL knockouts and title race.

I hope Ota and Stones take the chance by the scruff and develop a nice cool CB pairing for the while.

He is a top defender, our best defender and key to playing both his own position and covering

defensive frailties of both our current more midfield/attacking focused left "defensive" players.

Short term with supposedly soft CL group opponents, we will cover more easily. However, will

need him for second half of season. Hope he recovers well but takes time to recover fully b4

coming back.

Better than anticipated as it avoided ligament damage. I had bucket handle tear( cartilage ) in left knee and ACL reconstruction in right knee. Cartilage injury was fine after op and physio, ACL injury was a bastard and finished my rugby and football days. Realise times have changed since the 80/90's so hopefully he'll be back quite soon. I'm guessing January feb at latest
