This, end of thread, THE most pointless, meaningless, irrelevant, vacuous, unnecessary and irritating phrase ever to come into existence.

I think you are doing a disservice to Bishop Butler, the only Irish philosopher of note. The phrase we dread is actually an abbreviated distortion of his theorem "Everything is what it is, and not another thing." This remark has become a philosophical commonplace since G.E.Moore used it as the epigraph for his influential but fundamentally misguided tour de force Principia Ethica.
