The back four isn’t title winning quality

People go on about the press and their bias against us.

Not sure you have to look further than this site and thread to see we have a lot of our own who seem to have given up on certain players and the team/squad

Well, sorry this is it until January so suck it up

The thing this post forgets is that Fernandinho wasn’t great (he was ok) in his first 3 months or so, but picked up rapidly from after that period.

We were pretty damn poor away from home and part of that was because he was rash into challenges and hadn’t quite settled in.

It’s like declaring Bernardo Silva brilliant compared to a new signing of a similar style but then you have to remember that Bernardo was as average as it got in our terms until January of his first season.

We should also try and avoid the fantasy that Fernandinho would stop every goal we ever concede from now on.

For what it’s worth I’d say Rodri is settling into the team faster than the majority of new signings we make do and that’s an absolutely brilliant sign. There’s a reason he’s considered one of the best in the world, and potentially the best in his position, by those who’ve seen him regularly.

Early next year and into next season and we’ll be looking at an unstoppable. He just needs time to reach his peak, just like most others.

Rodri is a better footballer but not as good defensively as Fernandinho. He might become better than Fern at that or he might never become quite as good, but he might not need to be.

But in this team, with Zinchenko, Otamendi, Gundogan & DS, a slow def mid who lets some players run & is learning the league, is not ideal. We should balance the team accordingly imo.

Some have become entitled and cannot see the game without going into hysterics

These could be Dipper and Rag lurkers! I was talking to a young Oxford United fan whilst imbibing a cortado at the Covent Garden Costa. He asked how we cope with the success. I said that I'd been supporting City too long not to think the tyre would puncture at any time (see Saturday evening!) New inner tube for Wednesday and we go again!

People said Fernandinho wasn’t as good defensively as De Jong or Barry after his first few games.

People said Bernardo didn’t look that good after his first four months.

Here’s Bluemoon’s take on Fernandinho:

It doesn't really change anything relevant to this thread.

Fernandinho wasn't a def mid & had to become one thanks to Yaya/Pellegrini, but he was one of the world's best midfielders anyhow, so it was irrelevant.

Right now, we have to win most of our remaining games & pick the best team to do it.

He wasn’t as good as Rodri is now in terms of overall quality.

Like Fernandinho, Rodri will develop his all round game and get even better the more he plays in the English league.

As we see from the comments about Fernandinho, people will always pick out the new player. It happens in every day work even. The easy and most obvious target, but rarely the issue. So far it’s obvious our issues don’t lie with Rodri, non of the 3 goals we conceded on Saturday were anywhere close to being his fault.

(Ps comments like this will look really funny in 5 years ;))

How the fuck can a 'comment like this' look funny ?

I think Rodri is fucking brilliant.
