Would you sacrifice the domestic cups to retain the league?

Honestly, this season and probably beyond from now on the answer from me is yes.

At some point we are going to have to prioritise both the league title and the CL over anything else. Last season we prioritised everything and we nearly did it winning an unprecedented domestic treble but to then miss out with sloppy play in the CL against Spurs

For me we go strong in the league and the CL, the domestic cups can take a back seat from now on, and if they are won utilising some of the youth/second team then that is a bonus

As well as winning all three last season we were only a dubious sending off from winning them the previous year. So we play for them all again this season; Pep was really pleased each time we won the league cup as it takes the pressure off and at the same time makes the team hungry to win the others.

Yes, but more than anything this year I want us to finally get that fucking CL monkey off our backs. Let’s win the fucker and see if their sponsors would let them ban us.

Pep says that to manage expectations because the pressure to win the CL mounts every year. I believe it's what the Sheikh, Khaldoon, Txiki, Pep and the players want more than anything now and I feel the same to be honest. It's the final step. I'd give up the league to win it this year without a doubt.

The irony is that for Liverpool it's the other way around because of where our clubs are at.

“The Champions League is an important tournament, difficult to win, but I don’t want to go to the casino and gamble everything I have in my pocket for seven games. I don’t want it.”

“I would sign right now to do what we did last season again, not winning the Champions League and [getting] four titles again.”

“I want to be happy during 11 months. It makes me happy, the Premier League. When I win, the days after I am happier. I go to the restaurants better, I feel better, I work better with my players. That’s what it gives me. Am I going to wait until February to play seven games with everything on the colour black? From my point of view, it’s too risky. You have to handle it. To maintain the health of the team, the focus in the Premier League. The Premier League always is the most important thing, the local competition because it is every weekend.”

This was said in the Summer, just before the Community Shield.

I agree with him.

The Premier League is always #1, every year no matter what the situation. The Prem is now a more lucrative league than the CL n’all. TV and prize money is bigger in the Prem.

The standard of teams has become better in the Prem too. Shakhtar, the Ukrainian champions, the 7th best league in Europe, looked like a bottom half Prem/Championship outfit the other night - fit, fast, but poor!

Look at Norwich last week. When was the last time you saw any team in the CL pass out against our press as well as Norwich did last week?

I’ve seen the quotes and I think this one gives him away a bit: “I wouldn’t gamble on 7 games”, ie I wouldn’t blow the domestics in an all out push for the CL.

I remain utterly convinced that his burning desire is to win the big one for The Sheikh. He will never ever say this because the comment would come back to haunt him and his legacy.

In fact I wouldn’t put it past him to win it and then move on.

Hope we get through tomorrow night because I never like seeing us lose and winning is a habit. But if exiting the cups makes the fixture schedule a bit more workable during the busiest periods of the season and it benefits us in the two big competitions then I wouldn't be too disappointed either.
