Liverpool pay City £1 million in "spy" settlement for hacking - biggest PL scandal

This comment is a classic piece of Liverpool post event attempted rationalisation and re-writing of the facts -"This was an argument over the ownership of scouting information gathered by a person while they worked for City, but, believing the ownership to be his, still accessed it after he had moved to Liverpool. I strongly suspect City were in the right. But the incident is far removed from "hacking", as being claimed by the sensationalist headlines."

Is that part of the article or a fan comment?

If the FA have asked City for our observations, what will City do? What are we obliged to do?

If we have the opportunity to throw them to the dogs, should we do it? It's not quite as stupid a question as it sounds if you think about it. If the reports are true,we chose not to the first time around. There are potential consequences for the wider game, and CIty are invested heavily in the game

?

The ECHO understands that the FA are not categorising this move as an investigation but an information gathering exercise.

Data theft is a criminal matter not civil accepting financial inducements to conceal a crime is also illegal so unlikely I agree ridiculous, No.
Just wrong. It is both a criminal and a civil matter. The party who has been hacked may sue for any loss, e.g. Commercial information.
City did not accept a payment for concealing a crime, but for the tort. Compare theft which is a crime but also the common law tort of trespass to goods and the party who is the victim may issue civil proceedings.
PS EDIT. Not sure where the proposals about NDA's currently stand, but any new regs unlikely to apply here as it was some years ago.
PPS EDIT2. You will note that all those celebs whose phones were hacked, received damages from the papers concerned.

These twats look to seek an advantage anytime they can get one eg attacking the coach, pushing Uefa to punish us over ffp and now this. City should throw them to the dogs a 5 point deduction would do nicely haha.

If this is seen through to a conclusion, the punishment would likely be a 12-point penalty and a massive fine.

That's the chips on the table at present.

The FA might not have an option but to go all in if the pot is raised further.

Either way, there's no way their director of football would be able to keep his job.
