Var debate 2019/20

If the on-field ref had not given the pen today, the VAR ref wouldn’t have overturned the decision. Not because it was or wasn’t a pen but because the referees, have somehow managed to get the powers that be, to sign-off on them not overturning any decisions. It’s a farcical situation to be in.

If they won’t overturn anything, the only suggestion I can think of, is that the on-field ref, gives a ‘soft signal’ decision in real-time, like they do in cricket. He then goes and checks the monitor at the side of the pitch and he either sticks with his original decision or overturns if he feels he has made a mistake. The VAR ref can then be solely used for offsides.
The offsides should only be like the one the other night clear and obvious not scientific analysis to find mm that’s a farce the “spirit” of the law ffs

The other sports use it properly and we can hear everything.

VAR’s use in football is a complete joke. Not a single penalty decision (in 53 times it’s been used) has changed the decision. There’s literally no point in it other than for offsides in its current incarnation.

How much do you want to bet the first overturn is against city ? ; (

It's obviously not worki g how it should
Depends what it's really for. The powers that be, probably think it's working perfectly.

Anonymous and unaccountable officials? Check
No right of appeal? Check
Ability to influence or change outcomes? Check
A ludicrously pro Liverpool media, unprepared to campaign about the injustices. Or even mention them? Check

It's working PERFECTLY.

Looking at how VAR works in Cricket and Rugby shows a totally different world. The decision making process is open. Compare with Football where the decisions are closed and secretive.
The result: VAR in football is farce or corrupt. There is no other alternative.

VAR can be great but the way they use it England is a joke. It is basically forbidden to change the on field referee decision unless it is something objective to decide on, like did it touch hand, or was the ball outside the line during a situation etc.

If the on field referee wants to cheat he still can he cannot be overturned by pen decisions or with faults.

If he doesnt want to give City a pen he just doesnt blow and video referee cannot overturn it no matter how clear it is.
If he wants to give a pen for Liverpool for nothing he can and VAR cannot overturn it even if nothing happened.

Thats a total madness use of VAR and if PL clubs agreed to that before the season they are the ones to blame hope they working on changing it next season.

Can anyone please answer me these questions?
1 Do different decision makers sit for UEFA matches? Or could the arbiter who spotted Otamendi's clear and deliberate handball have also seen Mane being viciously hacked down?
2 How is the decision agreed - by consensus ie 2 to 1 or is it one individual?
3 Are these arbiters named? If not why not?
4 Do they go through the same scrutiny of affiliation as refs - ie the clearly above board findings that Dean only supports Tranmere and Alty Taylor er Altrincham?
Preferred it when refs were allowed to get it wrong - at least the focus and pressure was on them in the middle. Can't see many being dropped for big games or made to ref down the leagues now. Absolutely no responsibility on them now.
VAR IS just a way to massage the results the way the prem or the person reviewing wants them.

So at last the proof is there, Silva earlier in the season had his foot stamped on and the Ref and VAR say no penalty, Yesterday the same thing happens ( with less contact and a delayed dive ) and the Ref and VAR both agree it's a penalty.

As suspected VAR will be used this season to get the result they crave.
