Simplicity works. If songwriters use works like 'ambiguous emotive wording', they're less likely to have people relate and/or sing their songs out loud. The simple anthem that people can relate to will always create more Oasis or Kasabians than say and Eddie Jerome Vedder (born Edward Louis Severson III) or a Bob Dylan. John Lennon & Paul McCartney's writing isn't too far off the Gallaghers - in terms of the English used. Springsteen, Neil Young (the other one), Jagger, Richards, Simon, Cohen... they use wording that is smooth and clear. Good stories mostly. Bowie, tended to keep his words simple, but there was always something extra in there. Take away the music and Oasis weren't bad poets though.
