In every measurable metric - possession, territory, types of pass, Aston Villa defended as deep as possible and chose to hoof the ball long to Wesley whenever they won the ball back in the hopes of starting a counterattack. A tactic referred to as "parking the bus"

You state that they only had x amount of possession our half in that first halve.
Ever thought that it could be because they couldn`t really get the ball of us.As much possession as we had they had the better chance in that half ... even taking away Merlins poor miss.
 
Three things stood out for me today.

Great player though Gabi is, he's not as clinical as Kun.

Cancelo is a way better footballer than Walker

and Foden should be above DS in the pecking order.
