San Siro crowd control

It depended what time you were queueing. I was there from about 8:15/30ish. It was fine until lads started to get frustrated and the crowd got bigger. At the front there was metal gates which the stewards spaced themselves between. As more people pushed from the back the stewards just pushed back causing a small crush at the front. Didn’t bother me as a younger lad but there was one guy next to me with a bad back who was shouting to be pulled through and a few older women who were visibly uncomfortable. The stewards then let through 10/20 at a time but everytime they did loads of lads then tried to chance it again by trying to get through which just caused more crushing. Massive shouty police dogs and all sorts. Very strange experience.
The city staff were a complete disgrace tho. I will be contacting the club

There was a bit of pushing but I don’t think there was a lot mate. It was more a case of fans being squeezed into a smaller area I think.

Btw I’m not sure what that Scottish lad was doing pushing through the queue trying to pick fights with other Blues. Managed to talk to him and he calmed down a bit.

Should be proud of yourselves everyone one out here! I’m still here but seen blues about over the past few days, made this trip an absolute pleasure.. everyone has acted so well even when provoked by police stewards the lot! Met so many great blues, still being approached by blues calling me Burnley, if any of you are on here and got twisted Thursday and Wednesday with us give us a shout! And stay safe and enjoy the rest of your trips lads

Were you on Bootleg with 2 mates?

Was needless to police the crowd that way last night. We got into the car park at around 8.10 after being pissed about by stewards and eventually guided by police. we’d walked through the Atalanta fans with no issues at all, quite the opposite actually, most were saying hello.

As soon as we joined the queue/mass of people the stewards were singling people out and we saw 2 pulled from the group for little or no reason. One simply asked how long they were holding us for.

shame to hear that people got crushed and felt uncomfortable. It wasn’t the worst I’ve seen, Ajax was much worse but that’s not the point.

Had a top day on the piss, met some great blues. I don’t think I’ll bother with Italy again though for an away unless it’s in the later rounds. Hope everyone that had problems is ok.
Yeah, I agree Ajax was worse - I genuinely feared for my safety there - but this was still not great. The way their police handled the situation, and our stewards were seemingly impotent to do anything about it, was poor to say the least. It seemed wholly unnecessary to me, and many of us missed the first 15/20 minutes as a result.

On another note, I’d assumed these random verification checks for tickets before the game had been quietly knocked on the head, but clearly not. A lad who most away day Blues will know well had the ballache of having to go to a location on the afternoon on the game just to prove who he was. For a game that went on open sale.

Add to that the online questionnaire that the club asked us to fill in (date of birth, where you were born, when are you going, when are you returning, how are you getting to the game etc) and you do start to think at what point do you fuck the Euro aways off? Paying hard-earned money to get treated like absolute shit, whilst having your civil liberties infringed, seems less and less appealing.

Was my first away in Italy so don't have anything to compare it against but so much of what happened seemed utterly unnecessary, and this led to (understandable) frustrations amongst our support which ultimately started to boil over a bit.

Riot police, batons, shields, dogs.....just all so OTT for what was a seemingly relaxed atmosphere in and around the ground (did see a couple of blues with black eyes on the plane home but didn't see a hint of trouble myself)

It was just chaotic and could've been managed so much better, which in turn wouldn't have led to a handful of ours fans letting their frustration getting the better of them. The police were just itching for any excuse to get the weapons out.

I wanted my old man to come to this one but he declined. With hindsight I'm glad he did cos I wouldn't have wanted him caught up in that shit at 72 years old.

Still fucked from the walk up to the top!

Seemed to be controlled by intimidation tactics. The emails from city were a complete waste of time.

Got to gate 10 early after walking around the ground no problem. Then a steward asked to go to one side through an opening opposite Gate 10 into a holding compound.

Upon entering a line of stewards, bins and riot police ! Held on there for about 25 minutes. Half hearted look at ticket and searched.

The treatment given to fans was more inline with a concentration camp in the war.
And this..is The Champions League...so called...They try and build it up as something special..but the paying customer has to put up with this crap.
Why?
All credit to those Blues who took time off work, whatever,to support our great club at The San Sirio...the ground that Paul Power ran the length of to score for City back in the late 70s...you see liverpool,we,ve got our own history....Why cant travelling fans be treated with Respect..?
I was never bothered about Europe as a fan...but i am bothered about mates being treated like animals in a competition which is supposed to be the biggest in europe...
Altho, saying all that...the chaos outside Anfield a few years baaach( The Micah Richards 'handball') makes me think the stewarding/away fans problem is not just a foreign thing...

Attended the game, We travelled on Tuesday, had an apartment for two nights in Bovisa. Used the public transport, even went to Lake Como for a couple of hours. Got to the ground 90 minutes before kickoff, went to the concourse where all the food vans are , met quite a few people including Atalanta fans, Atmosphere was very friendly and jovial. Went to gate 10 which is the visiting fans entrance only to be informed we had to leave the ground via the home fans coach park to re-enter the ground at the away fans car park. We got to the first barrier where you were ticket checked then sent to a second barrier for a body search, we were then informed power banks were not allowed. (I kept mine as I convinced them it was part of my heated jacket.) Then onto the dreaded barrier which was at the entrance to the concourse but not the open concourse, it was barricaded on two sides with gates. At intervals the entrances from the concourse were blocked by police and stewards, cleared of Atalanta and City fans, then they would release us to cross the area to the stadium entrance. This was repeated for all away fans. When fans protested as they were already at the barrier all be it the existing concourse side they were told in no uncertain terms they had to leave the stadium and go via the away car park. All this could have been avoided if the checks and searches were carried out once you had entered the turnstiles as they do at Wembley.
