I watched a programme the other day and a bloke had something called Peas Wet or something. It was chips with the juice from the peas on. Wigan tradition apparently. I had heard of pie and peas but never that.

When I lived in London in the 80’s the chip shop owners thought I was mad when I asked for gravy.

wigan kebab =pie on a barm
wigan sunrise =pie with tomato soup
smack barm pea wet = potato fritter on a barm with pea juice
babbieshed =pudding

you really wouldn't think they were from the same country never mind 30 miles away

Them suddenly trendy pie & mash shops in Sarf London put a green "liquor" on it with parsley and eel juice.
Now that is weird.
