City - the most attacked football club in the country!

I have to say, I don't post here any more really, I have a quick read once in a while and frankly I don't recognise here in Bluemoon the city fans I grew up with in the Kippax who were self effacing and humourous. I know I'll get dog's abuse for saying this, but our following is changing and this forum isn't helping one bit.

I do of course see all the same media that people who hang around in here do... Sky, BBC, the papers, and I often wonder if I'm seeing the same version? I see mostly positive stuff about dazzling football, a model club, great examples set by players... coverage today on the BBC for example about us being the leading model of an eco club that others should follow. Sure, there are some neutral or negative bits at times when there's something that maybe piques journalists interests, but we're largely seen as a club to look up to and no club, team or player should be beyond a bit of criticism. But this forum's followers always seize on the negative crumbs, they seem to feed on negativity, and they magnify those crumbs beyond reality. They really seem to seek out the negative and they shine a light on it to the extent that they eclipse the overwhelming positive.

I don't listen to or read other fan forums or the stupid comments in the paper comments threads about human rights, sports washing, spending, oil money, it's heavily based in jealousy and it can twist you if you read too much of it.

Key thing I've noticed though over the last couple of years is that here in BM theres a strong element of groupthink, Manchester City are now very much victims, at least if you spend your whole time here. Any rare insightful analysis or alternative point of view is shouted down immediately, rudely and aggressively if it doesn't fit the victim picture being painted. It's a real shame, I've seen it even more the last few months when the odd poster has dared to offer a contrary view of a decision... it only ever results in derision and a suggestion of a shill, sock puppet or rag, scouser, bot etc. Not healthy.

Sure, we seem get some really bad refereeing decisions. Speak to any other club supporter and they'll say exactly the same.

I think it's unhealthy to live in here your whole time and to shut out the press, other fans, even fellow city fans that don't necessarily agree, and them adopt a siege mentality. It's what RAWK specialised in, and what we took the piss out of some years ago.

Be careful what you might become is all I'm saying.

And with that I'm sure I'll be gone, but all the best.

You can choose to accept it or fight. I choose fight.

No offence but that's a gross simplification of the reality. You might has well have come out with "decisions even themselves out over a season". The PL and Sky do not want City winning the league this season, the title defence is over VAR has given them the perfect tool just accept it.

I'm not sure I have, not to the same extent if you look at my history. Forums are / can be toxic places but yes, I'd say it's got markedly worse here in terms of paranoia and victimhood.

Look mate I have no idea his long you have supported us or how many games you have been to but you are talking bollocks. There is no paranoia or victimhood we are reacting to what we see in front of our eyes .if you cant see the strong agenda against us coming from all directions you have your head buried firmly in the sand.

I have supported us for 51+ years and I have NEVER seen the amount of vitriol and shit decisions levelled at ANY club, never mind us.

The problem is that the club is changing. We're a financial powerhouse now and next year we'll be the club with the highest revenue in the PL. We're successful, having won every single domestic trophy last season. The old guard are shitting themselves as a result.

The American owners of the old guard are used to a system whereby they make millions from their franchises and where one team can dominate for maybe a few years but not endlessly. There are wage caps, drafts and other mechanisms to ensure a team with a seriously wealthy owner can't set the financial agenda. We're spoiling their plans and are public enemy number 1 in their eyes.

Unfortunately these clubs have a big hold on the media and the media know what sells papers and advertisements. So we are constantly under attack.

When we were shit, everyone loved little old City with our endearing capacity to shoot ourselves in the foot at regular intervals. No one saw us as a threat. Now we are a huge threat and are hated, fed by a constant stream of vitriol from the mainstream & social media. No fucking wonder we've changed.

Hi Mugatu, I'm not paranoid or feel victimised, I've supported City all my life and first started standing on the Kippax in 1976..

I created this thread because I'm sick to death with all the negatively surrounding my club..

I wanted to get it off my chest and by the looks of it there are a fair few other supporters who feel just like me..

I'm not latching on to crumbs of negatively as you have quoted above, quite the opposite, it's an avalanche of negatively that is constantly rolling over City and I'm really surprised you cannot see this for yourself..!

That's cos Bert is not getting patted on the head any more like the serial losers we were.

VAR & refereeing.
Sterling: Targetted by Liverpool fans and players. See Liverpool fans videos. Not reported.
Bernardo Silva: banned
Pep: Described as unhappy and under pressure
FFP and Der Spiegel: Plastered everywhere
Spygate: Covered up

Love to hear your take on that little lot.

I'd love to be talking about other stuff.

Sunday: Var
Monday: Sterling
Tuesday: Bernardo

Yeah, we made it up.

It's a tiny percentage of people to be fair. On twitter I make an effort to follow fans of other clubs as I'm interested to know what they think. So many fans of clubs accuse the BBC in particular and MOTD of not favouring their club, something we've seen many blues say on this forum and especially on Twitter. On Twitter, City have many detractors, but that applies to every club. I regularly see "fans" slating Liverpool, United, Arsenal, Spurs and so on. It's hard but sometimes you have to realise and accept it happens a lot.

In terms of media bias, that goes on a lot in my opinion. In a world where clicks really matter, many media outlets will panda to the larger fanbases especially those with a worldwide fanbase. City's growth in the last decade has been extraordinary but we're still someway behind United, Liverpool and many of the other clubs who have existed at the top for a lot longer than City. We are getting there though, but the new territory has its pitfalls too. City will routinely be called out for its owners links to things like human rights and many small time journos will want to try to make a names for themselves and garner support through social media. I also think, like you, that City also get an awful lot of praise for the good things that go on at the club. Especially the football and the community work.

starting to sound a bit like a victim. it is sad though the hate against our owner is taken out on the fans and club. he really has been nothing but great for the epl and game on a whole
I don't think it's anything to do with hatred of our owner. That's just an excuse for the rag's and scouser's envy of our winning everything.

Take a look at the headlines. I'd rather they dwelt on the football but in 48 hours Bernardo has been suspended, and Sterling branded a snake by the Kop so what do you want? Sweetness and light? Some football fans would rather City slipped quietly off the scene but it's not happening.

The price of fame. Any sniff of blood and the sharks' basic instincts kick in. Sharks have small brains like the masses the media kiss the asses of, barely capable of independent thought. Just look at all the authoritarian leaders coming to prominence by what is effectively brain washing small brains.
