Chelsea were accepted because they were a fashionable club in wealthy London where the journos and the media could be wined and dined. Their owner was also accepted by the media.
Also they didn't disrupt too much the cosy arrangement of the 'same' top four getting into the champions league each season.

Yep, it was perfect for them, two northern teams and two southern teams, then city rolled up and ..........well you the rest
 
It seems no one in the Sunday Press has refuted the Athletic's exclusive that City will not be banned - basing this on newsnow and BBC gossip summaries. Can't see anything new in the media this morning.
