Due to retire next year and missus is bugging me a bit about a short trip to Vegas - me I could take it or leave it but would be happy enough to do it as long as it was only a few days

Anyone got any recommendations for decent accommodation/deals etc - prob looking around September time iish

i went with the Mrs, really enjoyed it, loads to do - we stayed Tropicana, bottom of the strip - was a good price i recall. make sure to book shows, grand canyon maybe and other stuff before hand.

Don't be put off with all the stories of gambling and drinking, I do neither (apart from the odd pint) but it's still worth at least one visit. Stayed last at New York New York (only because they were building it the last time we had been) but it was pretty standard rooms, already dated (20 years old or so) and is probably not that good a location, but rooms all over Vegas are pretty fairly priced because there are so many hotels.

It's a long way to go if only doing a few days, both times we have tagged it onto the start or end of a tour of the West Coast.

Personally I don't think much of the city (in comparison to places in California) BUT still want to go back a third (and hopefully last) time because there's things we didn't get to do.

Aim for one of the newer hotels and you will be fine, we usually stay in the Bellagio when we go. we usually do a week when we go as there is so much to do.

there are hundreds of top class restaurants, Bellagio alone has 2 Michelin star restaurants.

loads of shows to go to, if you dont mind what you see you can use a service called Tix4Tonight, they have a number of booths dotted about where you can get tickets for 40/50/60% off for that night. odds are you wont get the really popular shows in there but you never know, I think we got Jersey boys tickets through it.

Grand canyon is a must. I'd suggest as early in the day as possible in September tho unless you like it HOT!.

One bit of advice I would suggest is to take a small bottle of fabreeze with you, its a proper culture shock to go somewhere that allows smoking ( all casino's ) and if your not used to it you will feel like you stink of smoke by the end of the day. so fabreezing cloths just freshens them up from that a bit.

Went there on one of my divorce parties. Took a few mates and had a wild time. Think we were supposed to be there for 6 nights and end up staying a lot longer!

Highlight of the trip for me was a bloke we took in his Mid 50s and married. Swore blind he was going to be faithful to his wife and not do strip clubs etc. Several hours later on the first night - he was uttered to speak the words into the ear of a lady of the night (very attractive i might add) "and for that sort of money do i get to lick your ring peace!"

Mad place - go and enjoy.

Amazing place. Embrace it and all it has to offer, you won’t look back - unless of course you’re being shagged in the arse by a 6’4” transvestite (can I see use that word?)

Yes, ‘arse’ is a perfectly acceptable word.

Tuscany Suites near the High Roller best value I’ve stayed at. Huge rooms, great value bars and restaurants and not high rise, (just single floor if I remember correctly). About 10 mins walk to Harrahs on the strip and even a Gordon Ramsey fish restaurant near the High Roller, about £50 a night for two (hotel not Ramsey’s). They also have the Rat Pack Show there, beers from 3 dollars, breakfast about 8 dollars, cracking hotel.
