Las Vegas

The Double Down bar in Vegas sells Assjuice. It’s fucking horrible, sadly nothing like the real thing.

Depending on what you want from your hotel, it can also be worth checking out the ones that aren't casinos. We stayed at the Elara Hilton a few years ago. Great location just off the middle of the strip, so it was easy to walk everywhere.

It's connected to the Miracle Mile shopping mall and Planet Hollywood Hotel/Casino, and we got a large suite for way less than the surrounding casinos were charging at the time. Although, as someone else has pointed out, the prices seem to fluctuate all the time so that might not be the case for the dates you're going.

Stayed there myself due to the father in law having a timeshare deal with Hilton..... great suites, great pool (although it closed the day after we got there, and as first timers to Vegas, didn't really have time to sit by the pool anyway!) and as you said, great location.

You can quite happily wander into any casino anyway, so absolutely no issue for me not having one in the actual hotel we were staying in.

Personally, being the first time, I had to do a drive to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.... amazing place, and although a 3-4hr trip each way, loved the drive, long open roads, going through the odd tiny town etc. Also did Red Rock canyon just to the west of Vegas, which was also a good little trip, only takes half a day or so, depending how much stopping you want to do. Hoover Dam was pretty spectacular as well, walking on to the bridge that was finished in 2010 and viewing the Dam below is quite something. Having a car made these trips much easier I guess.

Loved the rides at the top of the Stratosphere, and took in Fremont St whilst we were up that way. Worth going to, but only went up that end of the strip once.

Would love to go again!

Been once a year since 2016. Nowhere else like it.

Aria is probably the best hotel I've stayed in there but not had a bad experience at any of them. Also stayed in MGM Grand, New York New York, Harrah's and Tuscany.

As mentioned in a previous reply the Tuscany is a very good option if you're on a budget, the only slight drawback being it's slightly off strip but it's easily walkable.

I prefer going around Autumn as the weather is still great but not uncomfortable, all the major sport is on and you can get good hotel deals. Paid £164 (not including resort fee) for a week in mid November for a week in New York New York and that included a $50 daily buffet credit that could be used across at the MGM Grand.

Also if you're looking to book activities there is a good eBay seller called Vegas4Locals that you can get some really good discounts on a variety of different things to do.

Did new year there in 2012 and it was amazing and was our second trip. Stayed at the Venetian and it was really nice but two gripes about that time of year. One was it was just too busy, everywhere was just rammed. Second, it was bloody freezing. All the pools were drained and shut. About minus 5 at night and hardly above 0 in the day. I wouldn’t go back there in nov - feb as the weather is a big factor.

First time we went we stayed at the bellagio in early June. Weather was scorching and it made walking around in the day with beers and cocktails much more fun. Spent days by the pool at parties and drinking and was so much fun and incredible sights. We did the helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon which was the only thing we pre booked and was well worth it. Had a meal in a place called Prime at the Bellagio and if you like steak then would absolutely recommend it.

There is something for everyone in Vegas, it truely is an incredible place.

They are a annoying but I accepted early doors that you shouldn’t go to Vegas for a cheap time, you should go for a good time and it delivers that in spades.
kinda not the point, which was for the first timer to watch for hidden fees which can vary widely.
and why would you go for anything but a good time?
You can do Vegas very frugally if you choose, why should someone not go to Vegas if they don't have loads of cash? You can have just as good a time if you don't.
There are tons of inexpensive things to do, things to see, places to stay, places to eat, buy cheap liquor, and of course the dam and all the natural wonders. One that i don't see mentioned was the Valley of Fire park just east of LV, better than red rocks imo. And not too far to the northeast are the National parks in southwest Utah.
We always go for eight days minimum and rent a car and that opens up the options to not pay strip prices for everything and visit all the other non strip casinos that seem to not be as tight. Long desert drives are a wonderful wind down. We've done well enough where we haven't had to skimp, and have paid up and enjoyed it, but i rarely loose sight of value which is what I'm getting at. $250 rooms and $14 nightclub drinks are a thing of the past for us.
I need as much money as possible to donate to help pay the Las Vegas light bill.
Tuscany Suites and Casino mentioned earlier by a couple others is good value. We have stayed there twice and would stay there again anytime.
But I just as much like the slower pace of Laughlin at the Aquarius.

Each to his own but I don't know why anyone would spend time in Vegas when some of the world's most breathtaking scenery is a day's drive away. Zion & Bryce National Parks, Marble Canyon, Monument Valley, Canyonlands, etc.

Bang on.

Have spent many a happy month in those places and around 5 hours in the hell hole that is Vegas.

Each to their own I suppose. Would rather hire a pick up truck and explore than sit around marveling at some neon, trying to ignore the constant noise of slots whilst a big nosed woman crones from the stage. Was glad i have been, but very glad to fuck off and get into the parks.
