Australia Fires

Swiss cheese saying it's just the circle of life, the bush fires are bigger than the size of Belgium which is ridiculous. Imagine hearing about a whole country in Europe being on fire and surely you would realise this isn't just a 'circle of life' event
It clearly isn't and is a direct result of climate change albeit you wouldn't think so by reading some of the coverage. The consequences will become increasingly clear year on year until mankind seriously addresses the problem. Stand by for much more 'natural' disasters this year.

Just out of interest, if you don't mind saying, do you beliieve in climate change?
The climate is always changing. It’s never plateaued in the history of the Earth.

In the last 250 years volcanic activity has hugely spiked and the Earth has warmed as a result.

Ultimately the only way the scale of this problem can be tackled now is collective action and some sort of world government. Humans need to start acting as one and not squabbling tribal communicates of people.

Try getting some of the conservatives to buy into that though.

But suggesting that volcanoes are the cause?

Humans have significantly sped up these changes.
Volcanoes are pretty much the main cause, yes. Human activity will also be contributing, clearly. But before humans any rises in the Earth’s temperature usually show an increase in volcanic activity at the same time.

When we had Snowball Earth, when the entire planet was under a giant sheet of ice, it was volcanic activity that warmed the Earth to what we know it today. If we were around then and burning fossil fuels, we would barely have skimmed the top layer of that ice.

Sorry, that is absolute drivel.

Right now estimates for total volcanic CO2 emissions per year are between 65 million and 319 million tonnes per year. Humans produce ~2,900 million tons per year. Numbers come from skepticalscience.com, with volcano numbers coming from circa 2000 papers.

Volcanoes don’t just pump out CO2 emissions, they pump out heat n’all.

But I’m not denying that human activity is a cause. Don’t know why you think I am.

Residential lighting and heating creates a great amount of heat as well. It’s not just the CO2 emissions but it’s the heat that warms the Earth.

But a large volcanic eruption creates a huge amount of heat.
“The scientists also found that single eruptions of one or two volcanoes can make up a large part of the year's heat budget. Nyamuragira in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mount Etna in Italy contributed about 40% of the volcanic energy total for 2001.

When Mount St Helens erupted in 18 May 1980, it released more than 1018 joules of heat at once - about 20 times the total heat flow from all the volcanoes studied in 2001.”

Tell you what though. For tens of thousands of years, humans understood that Australia was not a landmass to sedentarily inhabit. Australia’s heat is India’s lifeblood for their monsoons. Australia had nomadic inhabitants who would roam away from the fires and never settle in their zones. Us turning up in the 1700s and settling in fire zones is nothing short of pure stupidity. But that’s modern humans for you.
