What has started these fires. careless people with fags or BBQs? Lightning? or just dry stuff going up due to pure heat?
They've had an unprecedentedly dry spring, the driest in 120 years, followed by the hottest summer in history. That's following on from a drought last year and combined with unusually strong winds from an Antarctic weather system which spread the fires much quicker and has made the wind direction change frequently so they're harder to fight.
The main thing that actually ignites the fires is lightning. Someone mentioned arson and accidental but that's only about 10%

A large percentage of the fires are started by flying embers, if it's a hot wind they can travel several kilometers, thats mainly how the fires spread, some were caused by arson, mainly young teenager's.What has started these fires. careless people with fags or BBQs?
