Top 500 songs poll on Greatest Hits Radio

"Let's Dance" is the highest placed Bowie song.

What the fcuk??????

Looking back at the first few posts of this thread, unless you listen to a "specialist" station, radio's playlists are dull, safe and entirely predictable. Radio 2 (Europe's most popular station) being the biggest culprit.
Every time Paloma fucking Faith has a new single out, I know I'm going to be subjected to it, 5 or 6 times a day, for at least a month. Rinse and repeat for Barlow/Williams etc.

Stations like GHR play "safe" music, as they don't want you changing channels, so THEIR advertisers lose exposure. They want you to hear
Chain Reaction
Brown Eyed Girl
Don't you want me baby
Tainted Love
Rio
True
etc. All stuff that EVERYONE knows, so people don't channel hop.

There's a programme on Absolute 80's on a Sunday, called Forgotten 80's, and yes, the DJ will play a song you've bot heard for AGES, then, two songs later, I'll be shouting at the radio "how the fuck is this forgotten?" They don't want you wandering. People like familiarity.

Paul Weller had it right 40 years ago

And the public wants what the public gets
But I don't get what this society wants
I'm going underground (going underground)

Hope many listeners will take his advice by seeking out the wealth of great programming out there which is by music lovers for music lovers.

It’s a ludicrous list imo even allowing for personal preference. I reckon I have at least half the songs on there in my music collection but not too many feature on my favourite 500 playlist although I’d include album tracks. However, even a singles go, it is a poor selection.

Bo Rhap is fair enough as #1: it’s earned that status on so many levels. It’s hugely over exposed now but I remember the first time I heard it and I was left stunned in a way I have never been by the first listen to a new single.
