That may be the reason it was brought in but you can be offside anywhere in the opposition's half. Teams play offside traps high up the pitch as a defensive measure so the teams will not want incorrect decisions disallowing goals. Hopefully, there will be improvements in the coming years.Offside is there to stop players gaining an advance by “goal hanging” not there to be scientifically examined using flawed technology by a clown sat in a studio earning £2.5k a game
