United (A) - League Cup SF Post-Match Thread

I wonder if all the scouse bullshit whipped up after the dippers game has affected him in some way?
I believe you’re right. There’s no coincidence his level went down afterwards. Same scenario for Bernardo after that Mendy charade.

He retains the ball better, I thought we had a good shape on Saturday with him even though it was Port Vale. He could shuffle inside and make up the numbers to keep the ball ticking over in midfield and if we needed him to sit next to Rodri and let Laporte move over to the left of the back three.

Still don’t trust Mendy just yet and would be the most obvious weakness to go after if you are an opposition manager.
I did a little bit of research on that and it’s referred to as a “double-pivot”. What’s interesting is Bernardo now plays that position and it’s aiding Mendy who’s not so isolated anymore.

He’s a non-executive director if I’m not mistaken. A position he was probably promised when the Glazers were sniffing around. A champagne socialist if ever there was one.
So the club continues it's shambolic course on his watch, even fu**ing better!

Which ever personnel Pep picks there is potential in that formation for the one off away legs in the champions league. We keep the ball and pack the midfield and don’t have a striker isolated contributing nothing to the game, if we do that with our players we will create something and not get as exposed at the back. Plenty of food for thought but do remember this wasn’t Real Madrid it was Man United, we beat them with a 15 minute training session in shape according to Kev, that must leave the rag hordes mortified.

I saw a Nigel de Jong interview on Youtube (Bein sports) where he said that Bernardo played in a similar role to the "Messi Barcelona position" against United. He certainly looked fantastic in that free role. If he carries on like this (and last season's form) Bernardo could become one of the world's best players. I am not saying Bernardo is as good as Messi but moving forward I think he and KDB can be in the top three or four in the world. What a prospect. It may well tempt Pep to extend his contract. If we can sort out our defence we will be untouchable.

Agreed, the last few weeks he looks world class again and the difference to the team is night and day.

We sort out the defence, replace Spanish Dave and Sane and go and chase those scousers down.

Never thought a 3-1 victory at the swamp would leave me feeling slightly upset. Our first half performance was fantastic but again we or rather Sterling missed two sitters ITS difficult to be critical of him but has a knack of missing unbelievable easy chances making games harder Certainly the second leg is harder than it needed to be

If only we had Jordan Henderson!
