Of you want a freeze frame of gundogans career at man city, today is a perfect example, we're 4-1 up and he has a simple switch on to cancelo to launch a counter on the right, he ducks it, plays it 40 yards back to stones and we end up playing 5 passes inside the 18 yard box, the culmination of which is stones playing a shit pass out.

If gundogan just steps in and plays the right pass, the next 60 seconds doesn't happen. He is infuriating
Uh... we were up 4-1... why not conserve energy and see the game out.

I feel sad for posters on here who don’t see his talent.

We were playing port vale. Why nitnplay the simple pass out wide? He put Stones in bother.

He's an extremely talented footballer. Extremely.

Unfortunately, he's also a very cowardly footballer.

Cowardly?

That's a bit strong.

He's come back from 2 potentially career ending injuries, and he's had to adapt his game accordingly. He's a very intelligent footballer, but like most of them (including the likes of Messi), he makes errors occasionally.

He's getting paid to be a midfielder, handsomely. It's his job to tackle and defend. Mistakes are fine. Intentionally shirking tackles and not making defensive runs is cowardly.

I have a feeling Pep wouldn't sign your version of job description for Gundogan.
Your definition of a midfielder sounds a bit like the 80s, not like Pep.

Or did you just have a tenner on 5-1? ;-)

For as gifted a player as this, recognised by his nation and the world's best coach, to receive the abuse he receives on here is utterly bizarre, yet symptomatic of a longstanding problem of singling out players as scapegoats. That we do it after a good win is baffling.

Spot on. Love our fan base more than anything but will never wrap my head around the abuse he receives. Crucial player to our success the past few seasons, we are beyond lucky to have him

He's a terrific player, especially in the deeper role, and it's not hard to see why Guardiola loves him. It's testament to his character the way that he has bounced back from two major knee injuries and is still performing at such a high level. Extremely glad he signed a new contract.
