Doing a West coast of America trip soon and looking to go here for a few days, Any tips on which area to stay in, and things to do and see

Get across the border to Tijuana. Quite possibly the wildest town i've ever been to.

I love San Diego. Depends what you're into. The 2 places I recommend are:

Gaslamp Quarter has a lot of bars, restaurants. Good fun. Baseball stadium is walking distance too.

Pacific Beach/Mission Beach is about a 20 minute drive from Gaslamp Quarter. If surfing, swimming and walking along the beach is more your style, this is the place to go. Still has restaurants, bars etc

Things to do:
Beach (can hire bikes and surfboards)
Craft Beer (San Diego has incredible craft beer in the Gaslamp Quarter)
Old Town if your into Mexican food / culture.
Zoo
Baseball
Hire boats and go out on the harbour

I went in a bar there on a street in the surfy bit. Asked barman could we smoke and he said no probs and pointed to where the ceiling should be. I looked up to see the bottom of a massive plane flying over.

Great city. compact and easy to get about. Hotels even in the centre good value. Early October has a big Italian "festa" that is great fun
