I get what you’re saying however the meaning is different and the different spelling although a twentieth century Irish invention, distinguishes it from the meaning of crack.

You use it in English as having a crack at something or being a crack shot.
Craic is not that though. It is fun, great sport, entertainment.

Anyway. Doesn’t matter. Great word.

But so was "crack " in English, it's just fallen into disuse. See what's left behind:

The worst example is the bastardisation of the English language by the Americans....
And yes ironic seeing as i now live here.... The use of the word "guys" (especially when said as in "listen up guys") and refering to both sexes gets me going.

US usage of 'guys' is often gender neutral - bit like 'chaps' is used over here occasionally
