John Stones - 2019/20 Performances

He was finished as a City player in my eyes when he let the boomer Falcao embarrass him at the Etihad.

Don't think he did much wrong today tbh. He was more aggressive in his defending than he's been all season and was much better than Dinho imo. Could've attempted a (risky) tackle on Zaha in the end but the real crime is how we've got ourselves in to a situation where Zaha is 1v1 against Stones in our box in stoppage time.

His City career is over. He can’t head the ball, he can’t defend 1on1, he can’t run against anyone. Failed project.

Same thing was said about Mendy few weeks ago, truth is he will start games this season and will stay next season as he is HG

Better than Otamendi still but defending has never been Stones' strong point.

He let us down again today but we need to stick with him.

He’ll play a couple of square passes again in a few weeks when he’s got no defending to do and people will start saying he’s got potential AGAIN! One of the biggest frauds going.

Just can't have a solid ninety minutes.

Thought he was looking great early on and then the same shit happened once again.

Look ok early on when we were dominating and he had nothing to do. As soon as he’s asked to do some defending it all goes to shit.

Fair play to Stones, he has made a very profitable career out of being English and CB that didn’t conform to your typical English CB. He has played on this country’s desire to produce a ball-playing CB and done well from it. Truth be told, the continent is full of John Stones like CBs and most of them aren’t fortunate enough to be playing top-level football. I only wish Stones wasn’t either.

That’s part of the great frustration with him. For the greater part of the game, I thought he did pretty well. He was marking tight, aggressive, moving into midfield. But he’s just always got one or two big mistakes in him, every game.
We should never have allowed Zaha to be in running at him at that stage - criminal, really, when you see how the situation arose. But he’s got to do better to either engage earlier (and foul if necessary) or put his body on the line to make fucking sure he blocks the cross. It was a dismal attempt in the end.
Can’t shrug the feeling that he’s just piss weak mentally.
