It's well known in football that if you don't take your chances you will be made to pay for it.
The very first home game we played Spurs off the pitch and they came back to take a very undeserved point. Yesterday it was even worse. It was a story of missed chances and then a wonder goal from the opposition's first shot. In midweek we had battered Man Utd, and then they break away and score from a free-kick with their first shot on target.
Pep has highlighted this before now, and he describes it as inefficiency in both boxes. I have never known a season like it. It seems like we have dropped a lot of points in this manner. It's not like we play very poorly and are outclassed and lose. We play a generally good game and it feels like bad luck.
However it happens too often. It's poor finishing allied to defenders who cannot defend.
City play a very offensive game. We take risks in pressing high up the pitch so if a team does get through it's likely that they will have a very good chance.
Chelsea suffer with this too. They interpreted this as down to poor striking options and a struggling keeper who would concede a high percentage of shots hence Cabellero has come in, but I think this reflects on City and Chelsea's style of play. If you have forwards who can't make the most of the chances you create then this high reward/risk approach leads to low reward high cost particularly if you're defence isn't the best.
And yet if you look at City's last two games Bergwijn and Matic hit two great strikes. Perhaps luck does come into it. How many times would Matic and Bergwin be able to take those two 'chances'? 1 in 50.
It also gives hope to the opposition. they know if they can keep you out they wll get a chance. It also creates self doubt and weariness amongst fans.
