It was better "In the old Days" when we had a proper reserve team, where an out of form player got dropped from the first 11 but still got to play through their bad patch. Also when a reserve player got his chance, if he played well he, stayed in the team.

It’s painful watching Raheem at the moment. Pep is almost hanging him out he’s been so poor. That chance today where he passed to Gundogan was a fine example of how poor he has become. A confident player would have taken it on himself. He will probably be out for a few weeks with his injury. Get him rested and played on the right wing and see how he goes.

I understand the reasoning behind playing people to find form but it's gone beyond that now. I just don't understand how he is being chosen ahead of bernardo or Jesus at the moment. His confidence is completely shot.

What else can be said that already hasn't. A shadow of himself from earlier this season. When he's bad, he's really bad - as in he hardly looks like be belongs in the PL.

Drop him, give him a rest, and when he's brought back play him only on the right.

If other players could finish Sterling would have had 2 assists today and should have gotten a penalty.


So that's probably why Pep picked him.

I mean Pep literally said recently that you have to look at Sterling beyond the goals and assists figures, which clearly close to absolutely nobody is doing.

Th fact that he was at least putting it in the back of the net in the early part of the season papered over the cracks that his overall play (especially when deployed on the left) was actually pretty mediocre.

Now that he isn't scoring, he isn't contributing at all and some of his performances in the last 3 months have been... well "dire" would be kind.

He benefited hugely from having Sane in the team and hopefully when Sane comes back in he'll provide a few tap ins from Sterling and Sterling will get his touch and confidence back.

The problem is people are looking at him beyond the goals and assists. If anyone looks and pays attention you can clearly see he cannot control a semi difficult ball, pass the ball correctly or dribble past anyone and thats not an exaggeration.

Quite telling that his best moment of the game came when he made a run down the inside-right channel (which Mahrez picked out beautifully) then got to the byline and pulled a great ball back for Agüero.

He is so much more comfortable on that side, he plays with more instinct and doesn’t second guess himself all the time
