Premier league to sell matches on Netflix style service

The Premier League will eventually sell matches on a Netflix-style channel, its new chief executive, Richard Masters, has said. Masters confirmed that the Premier League had considered launching its own digital service – streaming live games and other content directly – in some countries during the TV bidding process for the 2019-22 seasons.

He confirmed such an option – which would allow the Premier League to charge directly for a “Premflix”channel rather than sell the rights to TV companies – was on the table for the 2022-25 seasons.

The revenues for the clubs going up wouldn’t be too well received in Madrid and Barcelona. Plus it kills off Sky and will be a lot cheaper. What’s not to like?

On a redcafe thread discussing this, a poster said they're already set up to do it and the live feed is run every match day for the worldwide audience

That 2022 date will just be the soonest they can get out the sky contract, everything else is in place

Agreed, though all depends if they keep collective revenue distribution I guess.

Didnt they do a premier league pass thing that ran like that in the Far East £90 per year? They must have stopped it due to a lot of Kodi box developers piggy backing off it.
